First deer rifle was a .303 British Enfield purchased from a Skyway, WA gunsmith, one of the Morrison Bros. It was a straight off the rack surplus rifle with a peep sight on target at 200 or 600 meters.

First deer I took with it was a four point Okanogan mulie at 25 yards.
Next year, I shot a two point mulie buck at 75 yards, That deer wasn't DOA and I didn't want to waste a bullet, so I finished it off with a metal butt plate smash to the skull. It was not a rifle you worried about scratching up; it had already been through a war or two.

A couple years later, I bought a scoped Marlin 30-30 and sold the .303 Enfield to a friend for $15, my original cost.

Bart, that rifle you built is fine looking!
