I lost my Bench made after nine years. Anyone that is not familiar with them, they imo are the best factory made knife. It was the Osborne 940-2, that axis lock is one heck of a great locking device. All of there knives are guaranteed for life. For 5 dollars you can send your knife back to them ( Oregon city ) they will take it apart and clean or replace, and sharpen any part that isn't perfect. I just got my replacement in the mail....YES! I don't care for the bulky all purpose Leather Man units. I love the S30V stainless steel. You can abuse it for days and touch it up with a blocking strop impregnated with a touch aluminum oxide. They are around 175.00 for this blade on Ebay. I've already have 3 more to buy. I'm afraid this is going to turn into my last addiction of Surefire flashlights. Which are super nice flashlight's that are as white as any other light. SF have the best lighting engineer's in the world. What is your Every Day Carry knife ?

You may want to look into Bench Made as a company a bit further. Knowing you, you may not like what you find.
When I'm working around the house and yard doing chores and fixing things, a Leatherman. When I'm just carrying a knife to carry a knife, a Kershaw. When I'm hunting / backpacking / camping, a fixed blade bush crafter (Pathfinder Scorpion HD). When just hunting or fishing, a Havalon.

Yes....sorta....read Stam's post and use the Goolgeator machine. I'm too lazy tonight to post any links.

A guy I worked for gave me an Old Timer a long time ago. It's still NIB. I have a found Victorinox Swiss Army in the console for opening checks. Not a knife guy. If I was going into Indian Country where I needed to carry it would be a Walther PPS-M2.
Benchmade blew up the internet the last couple of days for assisting Oregon City Police in destroying some guns.

A 3-blade pocket knife is with me, as Stam said, except in an airport. It is/was the universal tool for working in the field. We initially purchased all sorts of tweezers and such only to find that the sharp knife worked better. Some of the folks had folding Buck's, but that was about as big as it got.
When I started hunting deer I carried the "standard" fixed blade hunting knife. Then watched my Dad gut deer with his pocket knife. Must say, it works a whole lot better than the fixed-blade for that.
And, as Stam alluded to, there is/was a whole culture of sharpening the little critter. Every day, a few strokes to keep the edge.

I carry a 3-blade Buck knife my dad gave me 25+ years ago. It's sharp as a razor, but it's more of a tool than something for self-defense. I've carried a pocket knife since I was 8 years old and I swear my balance would be off kilter if I didn't have one.
I mistakenly had that knife as I was about to go through the TSA line at Sacramento airport. I ran down to the baggage check-in and paid someone $5 to find my bag and put it in there. Never thought I'd see it again. Lo and behold, that sucker was in my bag when I got to Seattle. Damn, I bet you were glad to see that knife....you were lucky. I'm petty sure you checked that knife on your return flight.

Had a coworker who found himself at SeaTac with his knife in his pocket. Put it into a potted plant and reclaimed it that evening on his way home.

JOnly time I don't have a knife in my pocket is when I'm at the airport, they are cool little tools, honest.... been around a long time, come in handy on occasion...for cutting, scraping, slicing, dicing, poking, prying (light), splitting and occasionally possibly brandishing....bonus: they are kinda fun to sharpen. Exactly. I have a "work" knife and a "weekend" knife. Work knife at the moment is a Kershaw Leek, Composite Blade (1660CB) Pocket Knife with 3” Sandvik 14C28N/D2 Composite Blade and 410 Stainless Steel Handle; SpeedSafe Assisted Opening, Frame Lock, Reversible Pocketclip; 3.1 OZ It's $67 according to Amazon. I use it every day at work. For the weekend, I want a little more rugged knife, so I opt to pack around a black Spyderco. I forget which model it is, but has a smooth 5" blade. A size larger than the average Spyderco that most will carry. EDC is whatever I grab out of the safe, but it's usually the Kimber Pro Covert II. I rarely carry.

Folding 3-blade buck for me - My dad gave it to me but I don't carry it daily, pretty much only on the weekends when I'm kicking around the yard, garage, etc. Useful tool as some have said - never really thought of it for self-defense. It has scraped putty, dug out splinters, scraped off old gaskets and gutted a fair number of trout. Awesome knife with a lot of sentimental value. Gave one just like it to each of my 4 boys.
On a boat (besides my kickass bait, gutting and fillet knives) I carry a larger Spyderco with a partially serrated blade with the idea of being able to cut a rope in a hurry if needed. Only needed it when a guest on a friends boat and cutting his anchor line that was all tangled down in the rope locker with the anchor grabbing hold of the rocks without enough scope to ride over the fairly large waves that were about to swamp the boat. He didn't seem to have any idea why all of a sudden the waves were slamming over the bow. Took him a bit to understand what I had just done - he was pissed about his anchor - and a moment or two longer for him to realize it was almost his boat on the bottom instead of just his anchor - thanked me profusely.
Carry that one hiking and camping as well.

It's totally second nature. I checked and my corrent pocket knife is a Buck. I think the old one was a Schrade and I think I need to fins one as the Buck is just a tad too big and bulky for my pocket.
Somewhere, I have a pocket watch from my grandfather that had a nice chain. One end for the watch, the other had a rather small folding knife. Looked great in a vest.

If you want to get your knife scary sharp, use liquid diamond dust on a stropping block and gently pull it towards you a few times and push it away a few times and you will have a wicked sharp edge. You have to use a stone first, then ceramic sticks in fine and one with ridges. The stropping part should be the last step.

For what it's worth, I have been involved in bowhunting now for quite a while. I also learned knapping, wherein I can flake blades and arrow points from glass/stone/etc. Interesting thing is that an obsidian blade, when well made, is significantly sharper than steel. Microscopically, the sharpest steel edge is still a saw-blade. Obsidian, and glass, are smooth-edged blades, down to close to the molecular level. Surgical scalpels, made of obsidian, leave next to no scar because they actually cut rather than tear at the microscopic level. Some knappers have custom-made the scalpels for their surgeries with excellent results.
