The only way we as Sportsman can make a difference is to speak as one voice, first we bicker amoung our selves and everyone wants to start their own organization, with their buddy's. We contribute sooo much money to our local and state economy's.....WE can make a difference, this 50-50 thing aint working...my.02......Os Organize and be heard it's the only way we are going to save the fish.

Osprey, I whole heartedly agree. We need to come up with a plan to send these people a serious message NOW! Not after the damage has been done. Ed

Right on Os..... I was on a secret river yestrday and I guess it was netting day. They had 7 nets in the river. 4 were strung all the way across it and 3 other indians were throughing them in to a hole that 10 people were fishing. That is pure crap.

Mac, I don't do drugs, believe what you want about the catch. No it's not true. Hunting season is not year around and only Tribal members can shoot the deer/elk. Tribal members can get a permit to shot game for those not able to hunt for themselves.

Thats what he said a tribal member can shoot an elk for his Mother,Father,Sister ,Brother, aunt, uncle,Gramma,Grandpa,Cousin and so on.. As far as the Quinault being being the best fishery in the state or nation and why????Because they net the white mans rivers more!!not only that the government gives them more money if there rivers prtoduce more,RIGHT potter? Wake up guys this will not end until we stand up and say"NO MORE NETS".Do you folks realy believe that 50/50 is the way it is going? or we can all stand back and let the indians take it all away!!Casinos (thats in the treaties )Remember what you forfathers said? They were here years ago right? DONE.TM mad mad:mad ------------------ You think old growth looks good,You should smell the sawdust as I'm falling one!!!!!

While I feel that the Indians have dual rights, I believe that we also need to work on the commercial nets..
I have purse seined for herring in the Puget Sound and traweled all around Alaska for various fish. I have seen 300+lb halibut thro, dead king crabs by the ton, and on one very bad occassion, two live tanks (hundreds of thousands of pounds) of dead turbot, thrown back....dead of course. Not one of these fisheries targeted salmon, but we always managed to get a few in the nets, some were thrown back (dead or alive) but most were kept.
The destruction is massive, not only to the fish and their habitat, but to other sea life like coral and cold water scallops.
The solution? Ban all nets! Every last one!
Farm raised fish will go up in price, but only until they can catch up with the demand and our wild fish will have a fighting chance..

If any of you guys are really interested in salmon and steelhead recovery, I strongly recomend reading "Salmon Without Rivers", by Jim Lichatowitz,(not sure about the spelling). When you're done, you'll be amazed there's any fish left. tread lightly, let go a big fish

Hey TM my brother...I feel you're passion, unfortunutley it's not one persons fault, our Government created these double standards, the tribes are just benefiting from their ignorance and we as voters allowing things to remain as they are. BTW:TM I'm not trying to tell you what to say ...you know I wouldn't do that...I just don't want the Sheffif to put you on restiction.
Definition of insanity :to continue to the same things expecting things to change.... ONE VOICE and they will hear us....my.02 Os

Hey Potter, glad to see you are in in this debate....now, do you honestly think that the american man is held responsibe for the fish and game problems we are having? and that the natives are just living innocently? uh, doubt that....I am not solely putting this on the natives because the state fish and game mgr's definately play a key role in the position we find our selves in today...both native and americans. The netting just needs to stop! both commercial and tribal...if our grand kids are ever going to get to fish this state....what is the answer here gang? personally? we should all fish rod and reel...do you guys realize how many fish there would be year after year....how freakin easy is that? so when you netters are hauling in and knocking all those fish in the head just remember all of us rod and reel guys back on the banks just shaking our heads in discust!
