I was at the sportsmen's show tonight and saw an Alumaweld sled from Three Rivers Marine that had a whole bunch of pre-rigged double hook with cheater in the middle setups. The cheater was about a size 10 or 12 but the hooks looked like #4's. I usually run a size 12 cheater in the middle of two #2's and put my eggs on the top hook. Just curious what other's like to use as far as the double hook setups go. Thanks in advance and good fishing, Justin STRIKE ZONE, I also would like to thank you for the eggs you gave me......they worked!!

I use a #2 Red Gamakatsu on my top hook for the eggs and a #2 Black Gamakatsu on the bottom. I will put 2 #14 or a #12 & #14 (combo) Corkies or Cheaters between the hooks.

Hey saukit2em I've never noticed a difference whether I use a #2 with a stinger. I've always done better with just a single #2 or #1, and if there is water color or it is 38 degrees or less I will add color by adding a size 12 cheater. But I have tried both ways many times and I have not noticed any difference in success in hooking the fish whether I had one hook or two. So since I am lazy and take as little time as possible getting ready I just tie single hook setups. keith

I don't like to use double's because I see a lot of fouled fish with them and when the fish is hooked in the top hook the trailer becomes lethal, Eyes, gills are all targets. Just as I take the belly hook off my plugs, More consistant hookups and the hook that is not in the mouth you don't have to worry about. Just my thought's

Personally, I would use a single barbless hook it's easier and safer if your C&Ring wild steelhead and it's easier on the juveniles.

Thanks for the replies, guys. STRIKE ZONE, we had one in the boat when we talked to you, we hit 3 more downriver, but only landed one of them....a nice nate hen, superchrome, released as always. I lost a pig that wrapped up in the anchor rope and Dave lost a nice fish that took those same eggs under a float. Thanks, again STRIKE ZONE and it was a pleasure meeting you.
I know that double hook setups with eggs can be lethal on nates, I don't plan on using them where there are lots of nates present, I'm mostly just curious as to what others are using. I probably won't even use that rig until next year around the hatchery terminal areas. I appreciate your concern about wild fish and steelie smolts, and advise others to keep this in mind as two #4 hooks or even two #2's are easily injested by juvenile fish.
Thanks again to everybody that posted and keep 'em coming..........tight lines, Justin.
