Here's an informal, just-for-the-heck-of-it, poll. Nothing scientific. Just curiosity.

There are lots of fish stocks and fishing opportunities in the Pacific Northwest. Of the following, what's your favorite?

Winter steelhead
Spring Chinook
Summer steelhead
Late summer sockeye
Fall Chinook
Early/late run coho
Pinks
Chums
Other (smelt, sturgeon, walleye, etc)

For me, it's spring Chinook and fall coho.

But Cohoangler, why not winter or summer steelhead? Perhaps my somewhat embarassing lack of success has something to do with it. Seems like even the hatchery brats are safe when I'm on the water.......

Flyfishing the salt in October, could be a Coho, Blacky, king, or Cutty. The funnest though is when a school of coho swim by you in about 8' of water, gets the heart rate up a little, just pray you have a bug tied on when you see them.

Oh, man this is a tough question. I really like jigging for bottomfish as well as steelhead, sturgeon, saltwater salmon and bass fishing. Not very narrow, but hey.

Gotta toss a coin for summer steelhead on the Sky and fall coho in the salt. Nothing like a summer steelhead on light to medium gear and there's nothing better than saltwater coho in the oven (OK nothin better than a springer on the BBQ, but these guys can be work to catch, especially if you live in Seattle!)

Put me down for summer steelhead. There ain't nothing like wet-wading, skating a dry fly and nailing a steelie. It just doesn't get any better.
Winter steelies are a close second.
Love those cutts too.

Not on the list, but my all time favorite fishing was coastal cutthroats in the small feeder streams on the north Oregon coast range. It's so peaceful and relaxing. Ultralight spinning gear, mountain air, mature forests and the best part.....no people. Just me and the mosquitos. It's as close to a relegious experience as I can have.

Second, fall Coho.

Third, Summer steelhead.

first choice, king/silver fishing off the west coast of P.O.W. Is. in June/July, next would be winter steelhead here or the Tillamook fall chinook fishery.

Nothing like early July on a well known local river for summer runs on the bug rod. An evening after work can easily lead to 3 fish to the bank.

It is by far my favorite time of the year!!

You've missed the Ocean Butt fishery! It's my #1 choice of all. It's C&R all day long until you get "your model size". An awesome fishery ~ that separates the puckers from the non puckers!
Next choice has to be fall coho. However, my partner says that tuna are the ticket to heaven for the "Top Fightin Fish" in the State. Gonna due my 1st this year & hope I don't join the puckers on the gunnel.

Hot summer days in a air conditioned casino at Lake Tahoe. The aroma of the ole Monterey tuna fleet wafting thru the halls, an occasional platinum jiggler cruising by looking for a cash-scented worm. Now thass a fishery with a challenge.

I would have to say I'm with Jerry Garcia, I love me beach fishing for coho with my float and herring. Jerry I think I saw you last summer or the summer before at Fort Casey fishing for ho's.

Anyway, my list:

1) Beach coho fishing
2) Summer steelhead on the Sky
3) Buoy 10, Chinook @ Coho
4) Snohomish River Coho
5) Fraser salmon
6) Spring Chinook
7) C n R dollies in the salt
8) Winter Steelhead

Keep your hooks sharp!

Fastwater that's a whole new topic. Here are two other "sore-arm" fisheries: Hood Canal Chum and Columbia shad. Try brushing your teeth the morning after reeling in 150 shad, a.k.a. "poor-man's tarpon," on an 1141S.

No questions here for the first three:

1 - Zipperlip River Steelhead ... big and stupid

2 - Olympic Peninsula Steelies ... big and somewhat stupid

3- Kasilof River Second-Run kings ... really big, really stupid, and really mean to boot. Backbouncing kings to 50-60 pounds in as little as 3-4 feet of water directly under the boat is a hoot!

From here, it's probably a toss-up for me!

Being partial to warm weather and water, I like fishing for summer steelies on the Sky. Chum in the Fall are also fun, but I must admit that I have never been winter steelhead or chinook fishing with Bob... that might change my mind.

I'm surprised more people didn't pick sturgeon. I did a trip on the Columbia a few years ago and it's insane. The fish were TOO big. It stopped being fun once my arms cramped up.

Winter Steelhead is where my heart belongs.

Summer Steelies with the BBQ on the bow of the drift boat and a cooler full of beer.

Fall Fishing, September Silvers over at Sekiu. Pulling bucktails on a bug rod right behind the boat and watching those fish fight over the bug. Outstanding!

Bobber fishing for chinook is my second choice then again backbouncing is kinda fun although oversize sturgeon is a work-out then there is cutthroat on the coast, that ia really relaxing hmmmmmm.........tough question!

Fishing for "Dollies" at Pioneer Square on a Saturday night

Actually, first on my list would be backbouncing Kwikies for fall kings. Then, agian, backbouncing Kwikies for 'hos and bow wows is cool too!!!

Spring C&R on nates in the Sky and Sauk, but not this year!!! Damn state and ocean conditions!!!

Hike in native summer steelheading. Last year we watched a fish charge a spinner from close to 20 feet away, it was a rush!!! Summer nates fight harder than just about anything and jump like crazy!!!

Kojo fishing on the 'Nomish is pretty sweet too!!! Parker, I told ya those little lures work, eh? We hit close to 20 a day on a few days last year, we would of hit more but Parker kept hooking up before I could get the anchor down and fish for myself. Not this year, he's learning to row now
He has been doing a good job on the sticks so far, let's congratulate him for rowing into his first takedown, then lets condemn Brian for losing the fish Just kidding Brian. You'll break that slump when you head out with Bob soon enough. Peace
