Here's an informal, just-for-the-heck-of-it, poll. Nothing scientific. Just curiosity.
There are lots of fish stocks and fishing opportunities in the Pacific Northwest. Of the following, what's your favorite?
Winter steelhead Spring Chinook Summer steelhead Late summer sockeye Fall Chinook Early/late run coho Pinks Chums Other (smelt, sturgeon, walleye, etc)
For me, it's spring Chinook and fall coho.
But Cohoangler, why not winter or summer steelhead? Perhaps my somewhat embarassing lack of success has something to do with it. Seems like even the hatchery brats are safe when I'm on the water.......

1. Winter steelhead-forks area rivers,big smiles,cold fingers,good whiskey and tight lines 2. Fall salmon-forks area rivers, spoons ,spinners,good cold beer and lots tight light lines 3. Spring steelies/salmon-forks area rivers,t-shirt weather,whiskey w/beer chaser and super tight lines w/big fish 4. Summer steelhead- forks area rivers,sun,cold beer and nothin better to do, I think I see a pattern developing here.

Gotta toss a coin for summer steelhead on the Sky and fall coho in the salt. Nothing like a summer steelhead on light to medium gear and there's nothing better than saltwater coho in the oven (OK nothin better than a springer on the BBQ, but these guys can be work to catch, especially if you live in Seattle!)

Put me down for summer steelhead. There ain't nothing like wet-wading, skating a dry fly and nailing a steelie. It just doesn't get any better. Winter steelies are a close second. Love those cutts too.

I really enjoy all types of fish, but yes sturgeon are awesome fighters. And those springers are great too. Also I crave the winter/summer steelies.<*(()>{

Not on the list, but my all time favorite fishing was coastal cutthroats in the small feeder streams on the north Oregon coast range. It's so peaceful and relaxing. Ultralight spinning gear, mountain air, mature forests and the best part.....no people. Just me and the mosquitos. It's as close to a relegious experience as I can have. Second, fall Coho. Third, Summer steelhead.

first choice, king/silver fishing off the west coast of P.O.W. Is. in June/July, next would be winter steelhead here or the Tillamook fall chinook fishery.
