Is that an old Winona (also known as a knuckle-buster) reel that you have Art pictured using? I have one of those and used it for mooching for years, but have since put it to rest on my garage wall. My arm just can't take that any longer.
There used to be an old veteran fisherman that would use one of those on the Puyallup in the late sixtys and early seventys. He would walk by my Dad and I as we were plunking. I used to watch him cast that thing precisely into each hole, walking upriver and hitting each hole, letting his bait swing under the brush, seemed he was always bringing back steelhead, while we waited for the high water to bring ours to us. I remembered that all he ever used were eggs, and that old guy was the epitomy of a steelheader. And yes the Puyallup used to be a great steelheading river, caught my first one there.
