What's really going on with our fish managers? Maybe I am missing something here, but I just can't understand it. On April 17 the WDFW released this statement: " Reason for action: By April 17, the number of wild upper Columbia/Snake River spring chinook listed under the Endangered Species Act allowed to be taken will have been taken. Upper Columbia spring chinook are listed as "endangered"; Snake River spring chinook are listed as "threatened". O.K. we can buy that part! But now when you read WDFW newest release on April 20th they state this: "Reason for action: The upriver spring chinook run size has been upgraded from the pre-season forecast of 364,600 fish to 440,000.
Because of the increased run size, additional sport fishing opportunity for hatchery spring chinook is possible.

The question is if the run size was updated on April 20, why not open the fishery then? Was it to allow a longer net fishery? Or do you think it had anything to do with the fact that WDFW wanted the sport fishermen to chose fishing or claming? Both will drawl thousands of fishermen. So why do you think WDFW decided to reopen the Springer fishery the same days that they reopened the clam digging season? I for one don't want WDFW making me choose clams over springers when it comes to my harvest oppertunity. What's your feelings about WDFW making us choose?

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook????

Dogsalmon,
I've fished the green lots as a kid and young
adult.I have never had good luck on this river that basically sits in my back yard.So the answer to your question is no I don't fish it,I can't stand that place.I'd rather drive two or three hours and fish a way more productive system then deal with low returns and and lots of people.Sorry, ask jig man or some one else for better info on this subject.Good luck,
