Salmon Egg Abundance - Amerman's Best

You've all heard we are in for big runs of summer and fall salmon this year. On the heels of the record 440,000 Columbia springers the predicted coho run up the big river is expected to be 1.7 million fish! And there will be excellant runs of both big chinooks and silvers region wide. Go ahead and drool on yourself; I am. So ... ... there will be lots of high quality hatchery eggs, even starting soon with excess hatchery springer eggs that are large enough for bait grade, for sale to egg dealers soon and thru the fall; and lots of salmon in the rivers to feed them to on your hooks. No shortage this time. The best marketed ones I know of are from Scott Amerman Eggs, who should have enough to ship region wide this year. To get in on these contact him at amerman@oregoncoast.com and tell him Steve sent ya. No % coming my way, just want you to get the opp for great eggs if ya need some. - RT

Just asking a question is all because when I sell the cat, it will be right here too. Sure they make great eggs. And all that ad space for the one tooth women, well I edited those ads for "no teeth women". I figured they'd be more useful I can't wait until I grow up and become a moderator too someday. I would be ruthless. Policies? What policies? I just make them up as I go along My first act would be, no drinking with your right hand on Tuesdays. Anyone violating this policy would have to pound what's left of their beer. [ 06-06-2001: Message edited by: Jennie@ifish.net ]

Just be sure to let the back end of your cat heal up before trying to sell it Redneck. ... And I heard it thru the grape vine that Hey_Yall is going to be an undercover moderator on Piscatiorial now; like Osprey is on ifish. Well, we'll see by giving him a test on some posts, because you can't edit w/o your moniker showing. RT

Hey Fishhead. I contacted them and they are selling fresh eggs on skein for $6 a pound uncured and $10 lb for cured. Seems kinda spendy for salmon eggs. I do not think they have Steelie eggs. I guess i will have to put more eggs away next spring on Steelhead. Just seems to be a shame to bonk that many Hatchery fish to put away 10 to 20 quarts of good Steelhead eggs. Is the Wind still producing good numbers? I am in bad shape for eggs after the spring run of chinook this year. Hope everyone is well, and slam a cromer for me. Steve

Hey Glo,
I'm thinking that price sounds kinda steep too. You know I'm kinda surprised your not up to your knees in eggs after all those springers you pulled out of the Umatilla this year....geeeeeeezzzz.

That price is about standard for eggs.
No offense Glo-a-Bou but the great Joe Butorac advocated the banning of roe as bait as he believed this would let live many hundreds if not thousands of hen salmon and steelhead that would otherwise of been bonked over their head just for their roe.
BTW-Lets just be sure these eggs are coming from hatcheries only!! Even if we are badly in need of eggs lets not support commercial and native fisheries for our own gain when we need to. You know the same fisheries that we have all been having heated arguements over the years over!!

The Amerman's eggs are from excess hatchery stock, and still in tight skeins. - RT

Sparky, no offense taken. I only take hatchery fish. With the 20 fish limit we have had in Oregon I have been extremly selective on the Hatchery Steelhead I take. I to believe the fish are worth alot more in the river then bonked on the head. I do enjoy eating Steelhead, but just like many other things i would not want to eat it everynight. Oregon just passed a new senate bill that allows us to buy extra harvest cards as i believe you can in Washington. I do not use roe for Steelhead fishing, only salmon. I enjoy jig fishing more then bait. Plus jigs seem to be more productive for me and less of a mess. Since i make my own jigs there is hardly any cost in using them. With the new rod TH Rods made for me I have now need for my medium or heavy drift rods for Steelhead. The 9'6 pro cert lama is a dream on steelhead. Makes a guy need a cig after catching a fish, and i do not even smoke. Sparky, i do see your point though, and feel the same way. Have a nice day, and slam a cromer for me. Steve P.S. Riverman, I fish almost everyday i have off, So 10 quarts of roe is not much. Plus i like good, soft, pretty roe, which does not last more then 5 or 6 casts if there is fish in the river.
