I am considering replacing my old set of Sawyer Hybrid Counterbalanced oars with something new (the blades are shot and one shaft has a growing crack). The new MX models, especially the graphite models look really good. Does anyone have any favorites or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

If your fishing tame water, get wooden Sawyer lights. I love the lightweight feel of the ones I got with my willie boat (why do you think willieboats chose them?).

Cataracts are nice oars and necessary in wild water for safety purposes but don't let anyone convince you it has to be cataracts or nothing. They are alot of money and you can get a very nice pair of sawyer lights for half the price. Mine have 3 seasons of hard use up here on the olympic penninsula and still are in great shape.

Cataracts all the way!!!!! Wouldn't use anything but. I've used Saywer, aluminumn and fiberglass. See if you can't borrow a pair to try

I've posted this before and had a few inquiries but nothing serious. If I can get an order for six pairs together I can get the cataracts wrapped with magnum blades for $200 a pair. I can't get them as fast as running down to the store but in plenty of time for the biggest part of the summer run. Feel free to drop me a line.

I have to put my vote in for Cataracts also. I have 2 sets for my Willie and I love them. I run 9 1/2 footers on bigger rivers and drop down to 9's for smaller rivers.

I run Sawyer MX-G Counter balanced Oars they are Graphite shaft with wood/kevlar blades. The things are as light as a feather and effortless to use all day.

Counterbalancing oars takes about 5 minutes. Wrap 2-3 pounds of solid-core lead around the upper oar, then finish with electrical or duct tape. Done.
