Anybody have any good techniques/products for restoring and maintaining the bright finishes on spoons and spinners. I used to use Brasso on these lures, but read in a fish mag that fish didn't care much for it. Since we're talking about polishing brass, chrome, nickel, gold, silver, and copper, it probably wasn't the best choice, anyway. I'm open to both biodegradeable and highly toxic solutions to the problems of corrosion, rust, and tarnish. Thanks!

I dont see why the fish wouldnt like the Brasso. We used it in the Marine Corps and it does a great job on all metalic stuff. If your concerned about the scent maybe you should soak it in somthing afterwards. Maybe WD40 I know the fish dont mind that and it should cover up the Brasso smell.

Get a wide mouth bottle of original coke-a-cola, stick your lures in side and put bottle in the fridge for about 3-4 days. They will come out bright.
just dont leave in to long, it will eat your spoons.
Oh, and you might want to mark bottle so the wife does not try to drink this, you could end up on the couch for a few days otherwise.

Try baking soda. Smear slightly damp baking soda on your spoons and blades then give them a good rubbing. That should take care of most tarnish. This won't work for rust however.

Rub chromed blades and spoons with a wad of wetted tin foil. Works great for rusty chrome.

Try Never Dull works great on all metals. Can get it at most auto stores.

Toothpaste with an old toothbrush has worked wonders for me on lures that aren't too badly tarnished. Once they get too bad I use Brasso but then wash them with soap and water and spray with WD40 or some other scent before using.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm a "magnet" for secondhand tackle, so I've got plenty of spoons, spinners, dodgers, and pop gear trolls to try them on. Don't worry about the wife drinking the Coke with the lures soaking in it...I fish barbless I've never tried the foil trick on lures, but a good sized wad of foil will really knock last weeks barbeque residue off the grill. Just get the grill cooking hot and "scrub" it with the wad of foil. Hold the foil with tongs or a mitt. Otherwise, you'll be tying fish knots with one hand for awhile.
