hey all you catters!!! I ordered my tubes today!!!!! I am so pumped about finally getting my cat and biulding my own frame. it won't be long now and I will be a cat'n fool!!! ok yer asking what I ended up buying for tubes? After alot of hard thought and research I went with a set of customized SOTAR SL elite tubes. I am getting 16' x 26" tubes they will be purple with a top and bottom chafe gaurd (black). so if you see a big purple and black monster cat then say howdy! I almost went with Wing but just felt like SOTAR was more of what I wanted. both are awsome manufactures but my money went to SOTAR. they said it would be about 2 weeks abd they would be done and ready for me. so now I gotta get my stuff ready to make the frame. OH BABY!!! I sure got some awsome ideas for that. dc

Congrats on joining the club. You're a doomed man now. Now you'll be building, rebuilding that frame. Tweaking, then retweaking. You'll get it done then think, hmmmmm, what if I do this????? I'm there and constantly changing. LOL Well, looks like there are alot of people buying real cats out there. I guess I should really think about getting that cataraft club going, don't you all think???

the cat club sounds good. let me know if you try and get something going.
It might be several months before I get my frame done. I am working 6 days a week and have very little time.and with the fish starting to run I don't know if I will be able to set the rods down long enought to get it done. but maybe by the time the winter runs going I will be ready.

Okay, humor me. Are these Cats you're talking about a catamaran? I have seen a number of smaller ones that flyshops sell. My guess is that they ride high, but what are some of the other advantages. Andy

Hey DC, one of these days I'll get that club off teh ground. Been involved with some whitewater clubs, figured a fishing cat club would be fun.
God!!! I'm going insane. I just saw a cat frame that gave me some ideas. It's an adjustable frame. You run basic large frame with movable benches. Not a take down frame like NRS sells. I'm gonna talk with Osprey about it when I see him. I have pictures of what it looks like and how I want to alter it to suit my needs. Not sure if it'll fly, but it's pretty cool.
Hey Dogfish, no it's not a catarmaran, but close. Instead of two hard hulls that cutt the water, it's two inflatable tubes. They're similar to the small ones you see in fly shops, but SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!! These boats were originally built for whitewatering. They're cargo boats that are designed to cut water. Mine's 12 years old and going strong. Doesn't look as pretty as the new boats, but holds it's own nonetheless. There are big advantages of these cats. They draft alot less water then driftboats, and will take you down rivers that are inaccesible during low water periods. Plus you sit higher in the water and can cut water better under heavy loads, thus making it a boat that you can run water that you'd be a little edgy running in a driftboat (not saying that it couldn't be done).
Well, good luck getting your frame put together.

yer going to really flip when you see my frame!! my biggest option is going to be easy to change for what ever I want. like you said one frame with mods that drop in where I want them and have dif mods for what I am doing. from a flaot trip to fly fishing. I am also going to have an extra large deck!!!! like I said I have put alot of ideas in my head and now it's almost time to biuld it. I even have a little idea of how to put a a jet pump system on it. I think Osprey knows what I am talking about. but that is another frame to be biult on days when the rivers are blown out.

HMMMMMMMMMMM???? Are there pictures of these types of boat around on the web? I already have three boats, but then again, how many is too many? The wife would probably have kittens if I told her I was thinking about another boat. I'm not rich, and my boats are not fancy, just utilitarian. What does one of these run, including the frame? Thanks for the info, I always liked kittens. Andy

Hey DC, trust me, I penciled out a frame that I could put an outboard on. I found out one thing that put the kabash on that. I'd have to have a title created and register my boat (aka my tubes) and license it each year. There's NO WAY I'm putting a set of #'s on tube and a year sticker on my cat. I had a good talk with Os on Monday. He stopped by and we talked frames and BS'd for awhile. I have a good idea on a frame, just need to get together to build it. Hey Dogfish. You're talking some pretty decent money for a cataraft. Just say it this way, just tubes alone will run you in the 2k range. That's not including frame, oars, and all the misc. JUST TUBES. I bought mine used quite a long time ago for $1800. You can buy complete setups from some whitewater catalogs for around $2700. Go to http://www.aire.com or http://www.nrsweb.com and look for catarafts. There you'll get an idea what we're talking about.
