How Do You Rig Your Corkies?

I have seen many different ways that people have rigged corkies. What I don't know is if one way is better than another. I usually just have a sliding corkie above my hook. What about the corkies that are on the extra tag end of the knot? What about the setup that has the corkie and a small split shot on the tag end of the knot? Does one setup contiually catch more fish or does is depend on the situation? If I missed a setup (I know there are more ways out there) please show me. Corkies and eggs have been catching fish on the NF Lewis. I just need to rig up some more corkies but am undecide on which way to rig. Also, is there a preferd color of corkie?
Matt

Matt, Nine times out of ten if corkies are below the hook on a "tag" then those people are snagging. The corkies float the hooks up and then when they rub on a fished back the hooks get caught and bang a fish hooked in the A$$. Anyhow stick to the corky above the hook with it sliding on the leader, that works best. But personally, I wouldn't run a corky in the clear water. Just use straight bait... Keith

The last thing I want to do is become a snagger. I want to catch a fish fair and square without feeling guilty about "snagging" it. I will continue to rig my corkies on a sliding leader.
On a side note: I have fished just about everywhere around the meathole area with no fish! I can't believe it, I am the worlds worst fisherman. It must be my sucky eggs.
How can I find the legal fishing times for the NF Lewis? I know it is one hour before "official" sunrise to one hour after "official" sunset. Some people were fishing this morning at 5:00 am. They must have been breaking the law correct?

RipDatLip...check out the WDFW big game hunting reg's...I think they have a list of their official hour before and hour after times. Should apply to fishing too. Occasionally I"ve seen corkies rigged between two hooks...mainly by winter steelie fishers on the Lyre River. One of my fishin partners who rates right up there with the best I've ever known swears by them for increasing the number of hookups....and he does not snag. In your case I'd stick with eggs and yarn. Cove RV Park & Tackle Prostaff(1) Always FishOn! Gooose

Matt, keep pounding all those spots. You'll get one eventually. Just don't try getting down on the hatchery side by the waterfall-seen people fall in the water trying to do it. A fish is not worth risking your life. The "official fishing times" for today would be between 5:50 AM and 8:21 PM our time. According to: Sunrise: 6:50 AM PDT Sunset: 7:21 PM PDT ( from www.koin.com ) On a side note, what were you doing at 5:00 AM this morning? [ 09-16-2001: Message edited by: Krome Brite ]

What was I doing at 5:00 AM Sunday morning? I drove up to the Hatchery in hopes of being the first person there, and just wait until starting time. Let me start by saying, wow!, what a suprise. The entire bank beside the hatchery were filled with cars and all along the chain-link fence. The upper parking lot had 4 cars in it and I don't know how many cars were below the hatchery. I was an hour before opening time! What the heck?!? I went down there and people were fishing. I wish my cell phone had service from down there, if it did I would have called the gammies. I saw one guy below the water fall who kept a wild coho that was snagged before fishing hours. Could he have possibly done anything more wrong? Then he yelled at me for shining my light on him. What an @sshole. I wish I would have got his boat number. I seriously just need to sit down and take a breather right here in front of my computer screen. I get so frustrated by people not... AHHH forget it, I'm not going to talk about this anymore. I HATE COMBAT FISHING!!!!! I wish I had a boat and then I could get away from the mass majority. I love fishing, buy I don't love fish enough to participate in snagging, fishing shoulder to shoulder, etc. I think I will post again when I am not so mad. or FRUSTRATED by not actually catching something!!!

I rig it sliding just like the rest of you. Using 2 hooks sounds like a really good idea to me. Does anyone know where I can find how to rig 2 hooks together? As for my favorite corkie I would have to say the clown corky. It's chartuese with orange spots. I really like pink/white birdies too. If you put in the time you will get fish.

Dr Pepper,
The double hook set up is easy. First tie the hook, then slide a corky on then the second hook all in one line. It's like tying a stationary double hook herring setup. I wish I could draw it up for you but I don't know how. Keith

Keith... That is where my USB scanner comes in handy... Just draw a picture, scan it onto the computer, resize it, upload it onto this server, and then link to it from a post. There is nothing to it.

With the double single hook & corkie rig make sure you're not goin to be fishin selective gear waters! "One single barbless hook..." Had a guy on the Quil claim it was legal...he was just a little to selective on what he read. Always FishOn! Gooose

Anyone's thoughts on using a corky or cheater thats pined with a toothpick down at the hook? Any advantages or disadvantages in this riging style???
It's the way I've been doing it only because that's how I was shown.
Thanks Rick

Crazy actually that's a good idea on small rivers or where quarters are close. Too many times I've sight casted to fish lying behind structure and gooten everything perfect except the darn corky was somewhere other than tight against hook when the gear swung in front of my target! Sometimes I'll tightly knot a piece of yarn above the corky to keep it in the right place. On big rivers in large drifts this isn't as critical. Gooose
