I've fished a few rivers where geese/ducks trade back and forth. Often thought a handy 12 gauge would give a chance to mix the two.

Dogfish, if you read this, I'm "Coho" at The Refuge.

Can't ever get those webfooted creatures out of your mind can you. I'm thinking of trying a combo trip in the next month on the Yakima here. Hopefully we'll get some water here soon to move some fish up. Saw some woodies flying around last night on the river. It'd be nice to find a little hole to throw some dekes out and drift fish nearby.

That's why I have a sling on my shotgun! I used to float the black river a lot, for ducks and hit the bass and trout when they were open. One spot I know, on public land, has lots of carp that make the water boil right in front of where I placed a stand. I have had many days when one was hot, the other not.

The best one was when I was duck hunting, and because I was still a starving student, I used some large chrome nuts that I had found as decoy weights. Well, the tide started coming in, but one of my decoys started getting further and further away.

I paddled out to retrieve the escaping decoy, and to my surprise something tugged back when I started to retrieve the line. Shotgun pointed at the water, I pulled the line in to find a nice, very large starry flounder. Over 5 lbs. He had taken in one of the chrome nuts, and it had worked its way out of the gills, hooking the fish. He was released unharmed.

I have also "flossed" coho and chum while hunting flooded fields near the Chehalis and Satsop rivers with my decoys.

This could be a new way to add action to your spread. HMMMMMMMMMMM?????? No batteries.

I think someone else called it the "social shotgun". I have even taken a deer and a coyote while fishing. I always have some on me or nearby that goes bang.

Cast and blast!! laugh laugh laugh I used to do it all the time on the Eel and klamath rivers!!! The only bad thing about the cast and blast combo is when you do have a good day you have a lot of "side work" when you get home.
