I fished this once several years ago and can't remember what time of year it was. Is this still happening? any recent report would be appreciated.

Should be peaking right about now. Don't know how true that is with the lack of rain, though. Take a look at the dam counts. You should see a pattern.

Personally, I'd fish Ringold over Vernita. Boondog or side drift good eggs and you'll do just fine.

I have never fished the reach myself for salmon but friends have been back-trolling magnums and jigging vortex lures. Word is that things have been a bit slow and the chinooks up there are often a bit on the dark side. Parker's advice may be well taken for the Ringold area particularly for steelies.

Parker is right about the timing, but there are many other places besides Ringold that will fish better. Especially as we roll later into October, move farther upriver, the fish do
Fishing the upper part of the river, from right at Priest Rapids dam to well below the Vernita bridge will produce better as it gets later.
Use whatever you are confident in, it all works. Herring, good eggs, Kwikfish, Warts, and spinners off of downriggers, cannonballed, or Jet Dived will work.
The key is confidence, just go.....

And remember, don't go into this thinking about limiting your boat. It doesn't happen very often, and usually only by guys who fish it A LOT. A couple of fish is normally a good day. The plus is they are often big, and the scenery is hard to beat. Good luck...
