Has anyone fished it since it opened for silvers? I am coming home from school this weekend and I want to go out west. You can email me if you like. Thanks.

Plug Puller I've not fished it yet but all of the reports I've got is that the fish are there...and they're huge. Since the Satsop thing is off I'll be headin to the Elwha saturday morn. With all the goings on this year there's a chance of record fish there. If you haven't fished it before bring spinners( copper is especially good) or plan on using eggs under a bobber. This is the worlds worst drift gear eatin river. Send me an e-mail if your interested in hookin up. Finally another river opening up and more big chrome piggy silvers for the Gooose! Just love it.

Hey guys,

I fished it Monday morning from first light until about noon. There weren't that many fish in the river, the ones that were there were down real low, at the big rock and below. It was elbow to elbow at the big rock saw a nice one (18lbs?) that had been caught there. Now I'm not saying they were lining, flossing, whatever you want to call it, but most of the guys I saw were using 6-8" of pencil lead and a 6 foot leader with a small gob of eggs and a little yarn... the one fish I actually saw caught while I was there was hook in the mouth - on the outside.

We left and went to fish the Sol Duc for the afternoon, there were way more fish in the Duc, but they were much darker and lock-jawed.

We need a little rain.

Was blessed with a 15# chrome buck summer run
and also hooked 10 silvers landing 4 while keeping one 10# chromer hen. I was free drifting eggs with 10# main and leader on
10 1/2 ft spinning. Silvers were hot getting
airborn multiple times. Funny thing was other fish were hooked but not many. Must have been location location location.

Whats up with the treble yarding technique? Saw lots of that both native and domestic.
UNREAL. Was told to egress by the man in July
for hooking springers due to the fact that the tribe did not want the fish harrassed. HELLO what do you call a 6/0 treble drug thru
a ten pull drift by guys totally experienced in this flesh ripping exercize. Shouldn't we all uphold the same standards with respect to our fish?

FJ out.

It seems like there are a lot of snaggers fishing the smaller rivers around the N.E. part of the Olypic Peninsula. First the Quilcene, then the Elwah ... How many will we see on the Dungeness this fall?? frown

There are going to be mass amounts of people doing the "Dungeness Drag". There are always a lot of snaggers on the Dungeness. It's fairly easy to just get them to bite so I don't know why they snag. I'm going to try Gooose's method and try to tell people how to fish.

Anybody read the article by Pat Neal in the Sequim Gazette this week? I haven't seen it, but I guess it's pretty funny, he says in there that he thought the Dungeness was already open from the amount of people fishing it already (illegally, of course), and that they were using "flies" (snagging), treble hooks with a bit of "hackle" ha ha ha smile

There was a rumor going around that the Dungeness opened early on the 1st. I heard it, but wasn't going to go until it was confirmed. I can't wait for it to open.....

Yeah, Dr., I heard that same rumor, I think people got confused from a Gazette article, and it was just Dungeness Bay that opened on the 1st.

So, Gooose, did you make it out? I fished the Elwha on Saturday morning, it was super slow, I only saw one fish roll, and heard of only one fish caught, though there was a crowd there in the morning.

Do you think the fact that the Lower Elwha S'Klallam's just finished netting it on Friday night had anything to do with it?

The Dungeness River will never open early... they are protecting the chinook program at the hurd creek hatchery on the lower end. I heard that they counted 88 spawning pairs this fall, but were expecting about 150ish.

A lot of the "Dungeness draggers" are kids. I am trying to do my part by educating the kids I teach at Sequim... I am even taking a group of kids on a "fishing fieldtrip" on the D in a couple of weeks. We do a hatchery tour and then go fishing for the rest of the day. It is surprising how many of them don't know the rules AND how fast they can catch fish once they are givin a few pointers. laugh

Education is the key.

Storn'nN didn't get there until noon. There were actually quite a few fish in the Big Rock hole. They were pretty skittish. Hooked one briefly on small egg cluster. Guys up in the Hardhat Hole packed out some nice ones. Didn't know the tribe netted on friday otherwise I'd stay home. Gotta go to the Sno/Sky rivers next weekend to fish with my better half.

I was up there on saturday, above the big rock along the cliff at the upper end of the drift. We packed out 5 fishing light line and eggs. Looked like a few guys were trying to snag around the rock. We did better legally then they did yanking on every touch....

Congratulations on catching fish Randy! Were you on the side with the high bank or the indian side? I saw some silvers jumping along the bank of the high bank side, but it's hard to get to from the indian side. I'll probably head to the Elwha on Tuesday morning and check it out.

O.K. guys, I could use some tips... when you say "light line" what do you mean? And what sort of eggs? Small clusters, I imagine, but what sort of shade?
