Well, with all the excitement I'm wondering what's the average # of days fished in a year?? I'd say I put in 100-120 now but about 4 years ago I used to put in about 250-280 a year. Just curious?? Keith

This year I will get in about 80 days and only 10 or so are weekend. It's been a pretty good year, except for the problem with the tendons in my elbow. Wonder why it hurts sometimes?

I would say I fish about 80-100 days a year. Seems like I'll fish everyday for a week and then I won't fish again for at least a week. Right now the fishing is good for silvers and I've been going about every other day.

Fishbait is the right or left hand? I'm betting it is from excessive "self abuse" if you know what I mean.

This last couple years and especially this year I would have to say somewhere in the range of 250-300 days. Not everyday is spent fishing for a full day maybe its just 1 hour if thats how long I have or if I want something to BBQ. and the weekends it is like a full day sun up to sundown. FISH ON!!! :p

Im with Catcher1 on this one. 250-300 days. Work or school usually gets in the way but i can stil squeez in 2 or 3 hours. Daylight savings this weekend =( Screw the hour more sleep, i need one more hour for fish on.
I got a question for the whipped fellas out there:
Does life on the river really end when you get married?

I fish between 120-150 days a year. I told my wife before I married her about my addiction to fishing and bowhunting. Her response after a few years was "you said it was bad, but I didn't think it was this bad".
This has been a great year except for the chronic tendinitis in my elbow.

I hear the tendonitis thing. I have had to quit golf and fly fishing for two months thus far. Doc sez I can start golfing (in November, thanks, Doc) but lay off the fly fishing. Best year of salmon and steelhead in 20 years, and I can't use the long rod. Good thing back trolling a Kwikfish doesn't hurt the elbow.

prior to getting married 3 years ago, probably 200 days fishing and 30-40 days hunting, now 50-75 days fishing 7-10 days hunting, wouldn't change a thing.

About 40 trips a year spent fishing, about 50 trips per year hunting, if you count varmints, but most trips are relatively short and include both. A few years back I was lucky to get out fishing and hunting for a total of 20 days a year, combined, but the boys are older now, 2 and 5, and I get to take them with me more and more. As they get older, I am sure that my days afield will increase, with them by my side. (My wife will get more quiet time.) When I was single, I fished or hunted EVERY weekend, plus every day of vacation. Like AKKings said, I wouldn't trade a day with my boys or wife to go fishing, unless it worked out with our schedule. Family is number one, and until you witness the birth of your own child, or find a great woman who understands you and is willing to work with you in a lifelong commitment, it is impossible to understand us "whipped" guys. You make sacrifices, and you are repaid many times over. Anyway, once you get married, it is just one big sex party, every single night! Right guys? Andy

lets see..... 52 weekends X 2 days = 104 + 3 weeks vacation = 15 + 2 weeks sick leave = 10 + + 12 Boeing holidays.....141....yeah...give or take a few!

You guys are killing me. If I got as many days on the water as some of you lucky dogs are getting, I wouldn't know whether to $hit or go blind! I get about 60-80 days a year, now that I'm married with kids. I used to get a couple hundred days a year when I was single. Not that my wife wouldn't let me go, but I just have other priorities I gotta keep up with too. I think I enjoy my time on the river more now, so maybe I'm really not losing ground.

Counted in my log from last year 210. Going to be close for this year also. Bankwalker I've been married 22 years, the first few slow you down a little, but with 2 boys used to have them ask, she couldn't say no. Now you act like you want a "little" and she says "why don't you go fishing" Works like a charm Fishhead5

It's so easy. I just set the alarm for 4 AM. When it goes of I roll over and ask the wife if " Hey Honey, Sex or Fishing, which would you prefer" she usually tells me to go fishing HA HA HA actually after 19 yrs of marrage, she just expects it. I came home this thurs afternoon from a few days fishing and she said what are you doing home so early?

Randy, You must be salary, shoot, I only get 40 hours of sick leave a year, and I make it a point to use them all, but with all this O.T. I have`nt had much of a chance to go fishing except for an hour here, an hour there. But come contract time next Sept. if we go on strike, watch out, it`s make-up time..

There are benies of working nights and living in such a great area. The Hoh is farthest river away I fish and thats 13 miles south. If only to fish a few holes a day on any given river or multiple rivers I put in between 150 and 275 days a year depending on how the fishing is and the river conditions. Last year since we had good weather and low water I fished about 275 days the fishing could have been better but the weather was so nice you couldnt not fish.

Days fishing? I mix it up with about 60 days golfing, around 70 days playing poker and about 30 days fishing. Raising 3 kids (two teenagers) and running a business keeps me planted otherwise. You guys with 200 plus hours? How do you do it? I saw the working evenings angle, but otherwise how can you be on your own with nothing else to do for 17 days per month? Retired? Laid off? Independently wealthy? Any other activities?

Fishbait (Steve S.) did you try thte tennis elbow elastic and velcro wrap I mentioned to you when we fished with Keith? When I had that bad I could only backbounce when using the wrap. It went away on it's own eventually. >>>
I used to fish close to 300 days per year in the 80's when I was guiding, and 200+ per year before that. Now I maybe fish 75 to 100 days a year. Too many things to do.

Im glad to hear from some of our "whipped" fellas that its not all over when you get married, even though the numbers WILL drop.
Hell, if i could fish 365 days a year i would. As long as steelhead swim, i'll fish.

bw, No, it's not "all over" when you get hitched if you find the right woman, but the first time you miss a day of dropping, green water and biting steelhead because you told your wife you'd a. go to a movie b. go shopping c. pretty much anything else, then you'll wonder what you've done.

You mean fishing off of the BB's ? lol Before I moved out here it was probably in the 300 days a year combined for both hunting and fishing and that was pretty constant. Moving out here and only fishing, probably half that. I don't always count calendar days, but count the individual trips. It's tough for Timber to get a kitchen pass to go fishing and that one day he gets to go each year, is usually for grass carp

I know that I can fish a-lot more if I'm not spending my time on the computer.....jk....This year is around 85 days fishing so far, with 14 of those in Alaska. I'll probably end the year with 100-150 days fishing, depending on the Winter-run returns, river conditions, etc. This is about the same as last 5 years. For the "Whipped-Guys": I've been married 12 years. Luckily, my wife has never had to work outside the home so her schedule can match mine. First couple years of marriage, with kids popping out, reduced my fishing days to 50/year. Ya just gotta find the "Happy Balance". Salmonids are all I fish for. All I ever have. I don't golf, hunt or participate in any other major "Family-Time Eaters" so this frees me to chase salmonids. There is always a salmonid somewhere that needs caught. I'm scheduled to "Work" 15 days/month, 12 hr days. So 182 days/year. Subtract 24 days off for vacation. Subtract another 9 holidays & floaters off that and I end up "Working" 149 days. Of my 216 days off, I'll spend all of the Sat & Sun I have off with my family and fish all the week-days. This works for us. One last thought....taking the family/kids fishing stretches the "Fishing Days" even more. Our 10 yr old and recently adopted daughter caught her first salmon last Thurs trolling the Forks of the Lewis's. I'll try and get the photo up here with her and her 17 lb Silver buck. Fun stuff. Find the balance. (Damn, now it's dark outside! I must stay off the computer! Must stay off the computer!) x [ 11-01-2001: Message edited by: Extreme ]

I have the good fortune of having a wife that shows me the door on the weekends. Really she is understanding of my addiction to fishing and is very supportive of it. Funny thing is though, none of my kids look like me . Just kidding babe if you are reading this post. Your the best. I get to fish about 100 days a year.
