Besides the obvious stuff like rods,reels,hooks etc. and for RT those cute red pumps he likes so well. What is the one item you simply must have when you are out fishing whether it's on the boat or one the bank.
Mine would have to be certain color winged drift bobbers. I feel naked without certain colors of small spin/glos,birdies or winged cheaters.
Another item is chartruese yarn.

Edit: btw Stew, the reason you feel naked w/o your winged shoes or bobbers or whatever, is that you usually ARE naked. Your wife told Mark and I that you aren't aware of it (some kind of mental syndrome) when you leave to go fish. We don't say anything to you about it because it clears all other fishermen out of the holes we approach, leaving it to us. And that's the reason we have you fish way down by the tailout - because your tail is out.

Even though I'm tryin' to quit, I gotta say ditto on the smokes. It's pretty handy to have my license and punchcard with me too. TP, gotta agree with Gooose, a DEFINITE necessity. But there is something to be said for having Denise Richards along as well.

I'm going to have to cast a vote for TP too. How can you enjoy a smoke, Denise Richards, or even fishing with a dirty a$$?

Besides the obvious stuff you need just to be on the river, there are some things that just make the day more pleasant, or your fishing experience more successful.

1. If you're a drift fisherman, you owe the guy who invented Pip's leader dispensers a beer the next time you see him. He's saved you five or ten minutes a day rigging up, and that extra time in the water can easily make the difference between fish and no fish.

2. Whenever I buy a new bait box, the first thing I do is drill a small hole in the lid and a small hole in the back of the box about an inch from the top. Then I run a piece of rubber tubing through both holes, tying knots in the tubing outside of both holes. Now when I take a bait out of the box, it automatically closes and stays closed. It really sucks to bend over when fishing and dump $10 worth of eggs or a dozen shrimp right out into the water because the crappy snaps on the bait boxes didn't get properly closed last time you used it.

3. Gazeteer. Many good spots have been located by "cruising" the second half of a slow fishing day. The Gazeteers have most logging roads, and even some trails. There's also not a lot of things more satisfying in steelhead fishing than finding your "own" honey hole without anyone else's help.

4. My number one most important item to bring fishing with me: A Good Sense of Humor. If you let the crap get to you, then why bother? This isn't your job, it's your release. If you're more bummed after a day of fishing than after a day of work, you should have just worked OT instead of fishing.

I like your number four especially in todays combat fishing environments. I've been with my dad a few times when he has yelled at other boaters for trivial stuff. I've just wanted to crawl in a hole and die.

Ol' Todd's got his act together, no doubt about it. The attitude is, by far, the most important piece of fishing tackle. The rivers, the bays, and the ocean we fish are among the most beautiful places on earth. People who manage to maintain a rotten point of view while so engaged need more bran in their diet to say the least.

Also, whether in the old Glas Ply or the old Don Hill, I like to throw in a few dry towels, maybe two Fuente 858's, and a small but elegant flask of Jack Daniels. There's nothing like releasing a wild one and toasting your (notto mention the fish's) good luck.

When I go fishing at Hoodsport, I always bring my portable ultrasonik pest away. Everytime I hook into a fish, it automatically sends out a high piercing decible only audible to people that crowd in when I'm playing a fish. Got it on that infomercial last year......

OK, other than all the great items already mentioned, all of them must haves. ( my fishing vest usually weighs anout 12 lbs) The thing I hate to go fishing without, is at least one of my three sons, all three is even better. As time goes by and lives change, for better or worse, you realize how important those shared day's on the river are or were. I would love to spend more time fishing with my boys ( all grown men with famlies of their own) If you still have sons or daughters at home take'em fishing every chance you get. Life is truly short and time flies, as they say.

For me it's gotta be my rubbers (waders), WORM blower, lubrication (for the reel), peanus (no, I didn't spell peanuts wrong, get you're damn mind out of the gutter!), on occasion a little pie (I like mine American!), some of those hard--on wader patches, and a pump if needed to increase the size of my...RAFT (quit thinkin' like that!).
