I saw this question on another BB and I thought it was a pretty cool question. So now, it goes out to all of you. What tv fishing personality can you not handle because he is too annoying or concieted etc. etc. etc. And who is your favorite?

My least favorite?? I can not handle the Watts of Flyfishing Video Magazine. They are complete morons who can not fish-they are like nails on a chalkboard to listen to them. Plus I've heard stories...something along the lines of them being incomptent and "I can not believe they actually got a ****ing fish."

My favorite has got to be our very own Robbo. What can I say??...the dude ROCKS!!! Plus I really enjoy Jose Wejabe (sp?) because he is fun to watch and just seems really down to Earth.

And the only bass guy I can handle is Bill Dance. I actually really enjoy watching him because he is not your typical bass tv personality. You dont see him flying across the lake in some pimped out Nirto with his 500 HP Mercury. He goes to these really cool out of the way spots and fishes out of a basic skiff and cathces big fish. Plus he has got a personality that is just fun to watch.

I cant stand the 2 guys that host the Dime Store Fisherman. These 2 guys are a couple of hyper active idiots. Everytime they hook a fish they freak out.
My favorite host doesnt have a show on anymore. Claude "Fish" Fishburn, that guy is nuts. If you have seen the show you would know what I mean.

Ol' Wayne is unpleasant for sure. Seems to be uncomfortable in his skin. But Jimmy Houston just makes my skin crawl. While that idiotic laugh might sound good on a cock pheasant it grates on the nerves when emitted by a human. Add all that to his unnatural physical attraction to large mouth bass and you've got one throughly unpleasant package.

Babe Winkelman, he filmed a show at the resort I worked at and explained the importance of the resorts policy of releasing big halibut, which he claimed he supported, shortly after filming this show he went to Homer to fish the Homer halibut derby, he didn't film a show there, he brought in a halibut that would have won had he not left his derby ticket in his hotel room. What a Jackass

This topic has also been discussed on a couple of BC discussion boards. Boy, are those guys hard on people! Especially the Dumbstore Fishergeeks and Babbling with Shelley and Courtney (they even have a guide service).

The person I dislike even more than Wayne Pearson is Ronnie Kovach - what a schmuck.

LMAO@ Jerry's Shelly and Courtney comment, they do have the best theme music though. Agree with Ryan on B Dance, being a southern boy (and yes a closet bass fisherman) Ill watch him anytime, especially his catfishin shows.
The quy I cant stand the most is this fellow thats always float tubin some mountain lake for micro trout on the fly. Cant remeber his name, but he kind of hippie ish. He'll play some 10" trout for like 5 minutes and then comment on what a special fish it is, too touchy feely for me.

Of the national programs the only bass fishin TV show host that I could watch for a little while was Hank Parker. Is he still on these days? I remember seeing out-takes from 2 bass shows; 1 of Parker's shows and one of Bill Dance's shows. Hank was just plain funny. Once he chewed up a live nightcrawler to appease a dare but couldn't swallow and gagged the thing out. Dance's out-takes of mistakes we both of him messing up words and tripping over his tackle strewn about his bass boat while hooking himself. But he really seemed to get angry about it, while Hank just kept on laughing. I love the out-takes.

If a guest can be considered my vote hands down would be EDDIE SHACK on Canadian Sportfishing. I believe that he has been hit one to many times in the head with a hockey puck and I'm positive that he did not utilize headgear!

I have to turn the channel if there catching Walleye or Dolly Varden because of this guys antics. Another indicator for turning the channel is when he gets out the whistle and starts to sing.

What kind of gas is this guy on?

I'm guessing that his hockey talents are worthy of notoriety due to his participation in the NHL for which I applaude him, yet I wonder how many last nerves has he been on. Italo (the glove) who also has the nerve thing going on, must relate well to Eddie's punch drunk state of mind. Either that or he just likes a woopin boy to educate thru his endless rhetoric. Italo get a hint, there is nothing in the middle to proccess all that information!

See next weeks show when eddie learns to cradle the elusive boneless brown trout (softmouths) under Italo's close direction with a stain free release at Sue treet (planted daily) lake which flows freely (I mean treated, silly me) into the Choko Salmy river.

Jimmy Houston bites. Kissin a bass and callin it his "Little Sugar Booger" makes me want to hurl. That creepy crawly Mr. Haney voice puts me over the edge. The bowl cut hair do and over size Ronnie Milsap glasses are too much. He got pretty upset when we were hosing stripers in Lake Texoma while he was filming one of his shows, and he couldn't get a bite. We wouldn't leave our spot, so he could fish it. Too bad.

Andy Mills. Complete tool. He was a tool as a skier and he's a tool as a fishing/outdoor show host.

And don't go knocking Hunting with Hank - at least not Hank. Sure, the guy shooting over him is a dork but that dog is the best.

Larry Csonka is the biggest goon on tv. Hands in the gills, rifle scope on everything that moves.
I like it when after the kill he asks the guide "What kind of rifle is this?"

Maybe I was smoking crack, but does anyone else recall (I believe it was) Larry Csonka doing an episode up in Alaska, hunting buffalo (American Bison) on a buffalo ranch? I thought that set a new low in outdoor shows. They had this buffalo all but staked and tethered. They set up this ridiculous "stalk" (they knew exactly where the animal was and I think I remember they drove their ATVs to a place just short of it, but then went through the meaningless exercise of huffing and puffing their way on foot over some terrain)and shot the thing with a lot of touchy, feely drivel about shooting it. That was the sorryest excuse for a hunting show I've ever seen. As far as I can tell, there was no sport to it. It was nothing more than target practice using a live animal. I guess that's what they raise the things for, but there was nothing edifying in the whole show.

Funny you brought up the Eddy Shack thing. I just saw him in an episonde on Friday night on OLN. They were fishing Walleye and Lake Trout and that was pathetic. After reading that article on the host poaching, it's even more pathetic because I can just imagine how that whole deal was a faked. I'm sorry, but Mr. Shack's laugh is unbearable and he was laughing at everything. My buddy and I watched only out of amazement that anything that annoying made it on the air.

Most annoying? I'll reserve judgement until tonight around 9:30pm. Got a couple strong runners on the same show tonight.

One of which is such a primadonna that he won't let just any video camera film him. Especially when he's giving out his best information...probably saving that stuff for the book.

Guys, there is no such thing as a tolerable bass show host. Besides, what are you doing watching those in the first place? In my house, bass shows are considered blasphemy (sp?)

I haven't seen a bass show host yet that isn't a total clifford. Hank Parker has a nasal problem, the lindner clan are too happy-go-lucky-bubbly....they remind me of Billy Mayes on that stupid oxy-clean commercial, Jimmy houston squeals like a stuck pig, Bill Dance has all the personality of a stump but doesn't insult my intelligence as bad as the others. Allen Warren (seldom seen anymore) was a total goober too.

The best I've seen from the standpoint of being humble and open-minded was Jeff Boyer when he hosted the now-defunct "Fishing the West".

Anybody with one of those annoying Damn Yankee accents. I guess they didn't read the sign on the way in:

"We don't give a Damn how you did it up North."

Anybody that makes a show out of bream fishing, walleye fishing, or ice fishing deserves to be shot. I say walleye fishing because I absolutely cannot stand anybody who's ever shown their face on "The In-Fishermen". Anybody with the last name Linder is the enemy. Don't even get me started if the guy's first name is "Al".

There's also this guy called Roland Martin. He's the greatest fishermen in the world and he'll tell you all about it too.

Andy Mills is not a bad guy, he's knowledgeable and how many damn shows do you see where people actually fish in your backyard and catch fish? All these other ****ers just rent a guide and then tell you all about how time and preparation, etc. Especially when I think of Larry Csonka. I honestly don't think the guy could kill an animal or a catch a fish if he didn't have a $15K a day guided trip somewhere paid for by ESPN. It's a good thing they have good editors because sometimes I swear I can hear in the background "Ok, cue the bear. We aren't hunting bear this week. Crap, well release something and we'll shoot it, show 15 minutes of commercials, 5 minutes of gear used, and cram 7 days of fishing action into the 15 minutes you actually see them catching fish.

I think I'd watch more fishing on tv if the guys actually went skunk and fished places on their own.

Best there ever was "lucky" Jim Conway. Someone oughta get the old tapes of that show and broadcast them now! I'd never miss it. I remember one show they did winter steelheading on the Kalama they BBQ'd a steelie right there on the bank and ate it with their fingers. That looked soooooooooooo goood!!!

Have to agree with you guys on the Bass ones. BORING!! I have a friend who guided Larry Csonka on a trip up in AK this year that will be on the show next year. His opinion: Larry is a nice guy, great storyteller but not a very good fisherman. Did say that he was friendly the whole time and tipped well, so that's something.
