Ok fine now I'm not only drooling from the flu! Can't see it clearly but I'm wondering if that might be a brand new Vibrax Worm spinner? Or is it just my fever?

Nice little fish Rich, Great Job.
That is kindof an odd looking spinner/worm combo that you are ussing but it oviously got in front of the right fish at the right time. Which brings up another topic: does it matter what your presenting to the fish if its in the strike zone as in in that "fishes" zone of atack?

I am thinking that it might matter becaus I know that i have had my gear go righ by numerous steelies with eggs or what have you and not gotten one to hit, and then you change your aproach and use a float and worm and first cast the bobber goes down.
Well just though I might throw that out there, it could just be non-sence to.

That may be an odd looking spinner that I concocted but it accounted for more silvers then I can count. Believe it or not It took 37 landed in one day all to my hand. Not to mention 4 steelhead and 4 Kings so far this fall. Three of the steelies came today, which were all winters. Id say its more then an odd spinner that got infront of the right fish. It was top secret but since salmon season is about over and Ill be putting the crazy spinners away soon I dont care. It wasnt designed to catch steelies but it does.

May I suggest "Horror of the Hoh" as a name for that thing? Heard you guys were working on some new zipperlip spinners...wait til you see my new special high carbon fiber polymer stealth technology designs with a d#mm pink worm attached. :p

We call it the MACHINE. It looks goofy and gets you some dirty looks when you pull it out in a crowd but if it works then who cares. That worm has some awsome action that the Slivers cant resist.

Rich is that just a #5 red Vibrax with a 6" pink worm that was cut a bit?
It looks like the worm would wobble enough to really intice some fish.
But I would imagin that other luhrs work better

Its a Custom painted #5 with a 3.5" worm on it.

if you don't mind. We've been finding
so many ways to effectively fish the
pink worm (other colors too - such as
black with a chartreuse tipped tail and
transparent purple in clear water)
for salmon and steelhead. Trolling the
lower Columbia earlier for silvers,
Don put on a spinner and pink worm
and got more strikes than the rest
of us using good plug-cut herring!
I also like to do a slow twitching
retrieve with them on a jighead hook.
Summer steelhead and early silvers
particularly go for this presentation,
maybe with the water no so cold yet. But
I will be trying it on winters too - soon!

Got to tell you the Vibrax with the pink worm was a beautiful play. I told myself... why didn't I think of that. I fished the Sop this weekend and had fish rolling all around me and only hooked four and landed one. Anyway, they have been using Jigs with a pinky on it and it has been knocking them dead.

She's a beaut I just hope this is the
beginning of a steelhead run to match
the salmon run we're having.

Damn... to think of just how much money
has been generated for the state thru tax
dollars, jobs, and divorce lawyers because
the fishing is as good as it is this year.
I know personally I have pumped my fair
share in. Just maybe the state will
realize how much money we generate for
them and maybe someday the scales will
tilt in the sportsmans direction.

Oh well hears to dreaming...

Just a thought but anyone considered handpouring some worms with a mixture of sandshrimp colors? Pink mostly with splotches of orange and white. Same thing for crawdads. Brown, orange,a speck of white and blue.

You guys are starting to sound like bass fishermen!!!... you can buy all sorts of soft bait stuff made for bass, in every color imaginable... [Bleeeeep!] I've even seen brown rubber crawdads for sale at WalMart up here. Someone's just got to have the balls (and know-how) to try all that stuff.

Rich, it's nice to see that a few brats are showing up. I might have to make the long drive from Sequim to Forks soon.

Keep experimenting with plastics, there are a lot of different ways to rig them. I moved here form E. WA with a tackle box full of bass and walleye stuff.
Hint: Start experimenting with 3/8 and 1/2 oz. tube jigs. You can cast and work them into very specific "fishy" spots. Bass pro shops also sells painted jigs with little spinners on them.

Ive already used it for fly fishing. threaded one on my fly leader and killed the Humpies up on Kodiak a couple months ago. Even made up a new fly the other day. I call it the egg sucking pink worm. Im going to try it this winter.
