I was out fishing some of my holy water this morning and I was watching my float come down river when I spotted a big buck that looked to be chasing my jig down the river. He blew right by it then swung around and came to the surface and sucked my float right off the top. He took 1 run with the float in his mouth then let it go, it was one of the weirdest thing I've seen!

Hey Jigman,
You might have to start running your float with a trailer hook on it! wink

Had this happen to me about 5 years ago. Was on a Sept. blackpowder deer hunt up out of Carlton, Wa. Hunting was slow due to the warm temp. and dry woods; slipped down to the Methow to cool off and throw some jigs. About my 3rd cast this huge colored-up buck steelie comes up from about 15' down & eats my bobber! Reeled up and went back into the woods where it was safe. :p :p

A few years ago I was jig fishing on a nice rainy, cold and quiet day. We were anchored in about 15 ft of water. I was in one of those casting trances brought on by too many beers the nite befor and too little action that morn. Suddenly the quiet was broken by my brother in law(6-4 #270) yelling my name from 5 feet away.HE had that shocked and scared quality in his voice that stood my hair on end. Before I could swing my head around the water 2 feet in front of me erupted as a big b-run buck came clear out of the water and splashed down inches away from my boat. I damn near had a heart attack. I think that he was coming out to taste my bright yellow rain coat. I fish exclusivly in camo now. I can't stand the thought of mouth to mouth with that guy.

Hey MT.Mike, saw your home town at the bottom of your post, was in Florence last weekend. Now I'm not saying your post is total fiction but you bitterroot boys are known to exaggerate. You were probably drinking that bootleg moose drool, and you know what that stuff can do to the brain. The fish in question was a 12"rainbow and your bro. in law is 5'6" 120 lbs. soaking wet! And yes you have been known to do c.p.r. on your fishing buddys for no apparent reason. rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes Go Grizzly's!!

Once when I as about 6 and before I knew better I was bobber and worm fishing for sea run cutthroat kelts in the spring. While fishing in a back eddy I have an onl spawned out steelhead come up and push my bobber around with it's nose. it did so for a halh an hour solid before it lost interest, never once did it try to "take " the bobber it just seemed to be literally playing with it.

Can't stand it when I'm chronomid fishing Dry Falls or some other lake and they are more interested in my corky strike indicator than my bug. Not adhering to any purist ethics I usually grease up a small glo-bug and fish it in the film, usually with good results.

I had a similar thing happen. My buddy, Brian, was fighting a steelhead. While he was bringing in the fish, it was followed in by three other steelhead. He pointed this out and I cast just beyond his fighting fish. I was using a thill float and bait. Next thing you know one of the following fish rose up and grabed my thill and yanked on it, it too was a buck. It didn't swallow it but just gave it a good bite. one of the stranger things I have seen.

Hey Chrome, I heard that some stranger was down here molesting the McClays sheep last weekend while I was gone fishin. The locals here have a couple of requests of you.
1.Alto everyone enjoyed the show, no matter how romantic you are feeling, please only play with them after dark.
2. Leave that chrome thing in your bag of tricks so ya don't ruin them for everyone else.
By the way, they are Grizzlies and if preceded with go its "Go Griz"

Geez guys ...ya wouldn't have this problem if you used a leader. Product Warning! Don't attach your pink worm or jig directly to your bobber! Use a little leader for safety. :p :p When pursuing steelies, sheep and goats always remember to use protection! wink

Gooose laugh

Same thing happened to me on a SW WA river while pursuing chinooks and silvers. James and I came into a virgin run and we both were fishing bobber and eggs. I made the first cast into some boily water that came off a sharp lip, well as my bobber was just starting to kick out of the boily stuff it started to go down. With all of this happening no more than a rod length away I didn't want to set the hook too hard so I started to lift up and the bobber came back to the surface but was laying on its side. I started reeling to tighten up on the fish that had the eggs and all of a sudden a summer run buck about 15 lbs came up and ate the bobber and took it down. I started yelling "he's got my bobber, James he's got my bobber!" I still remember the look on his face while he watched me flail around not know whether to set the hook or what... So, about 10 seconds goes by and I started reeling and then the bobber comes up and the steelhead had my eggs in it's mouth the hole time. So, I set the hook and landed that over achiever fish...and let him go... We need more of his genes in our genepool, nothing better than a aggressive summer run.

That also brings up another wild memory I had, there's been a couple times that james and I have been fishing tidewater in the lower EF when summerruns have actually beached themselves while following a bait that was being reeled in. Now everytime we fish those two holes it's always "remember jaws!!!" Anyone else had similar situations?

I think bait beaching is more common than bobber chewing, but still quite a site to see! Look at my post on the "Add another hatchery winter to the list" by KROME BRITE.....22 cool
