I was walking into the deer Creek hole one day when I noticed one of the local Goobers was plunking the hole. I called to my buddy (loud enough for Cletus to hear) to give me his cell phone so I could call the state police. Well ol’ Cletus up and decides to pull his plunking rig out of the river at this point. I never said boo to the guy.

I think the point is that you should always do something to stop poaching without starting a confrontation.

Good point, and I wish I had a cell phone...but I don't. I used the online poaching report page on the WDFW site this time, though. It's the flagrant, confrontational, and repeated violations in several areas and by certain individuals that burns me the most. The problem with the Stilly is that many areas take some walking to get in to...meanwhile, enforcement is probably (and probably rightfully so) targeting snaggers on the Samish, where fish seem to bite little pieces of yarn aggressively with their anuses.

I hiked in to a stretch of the fly-only water and saw a young guy with a spinning rod and a (protected) dollie on the bank. He wasn't very polite, to say the least, when I asked him if he knew he was fishing illegally and had retained a species illegally. All, it seems to me, par for the course on the Stilly. rolleyes
