Plugging questions

On Wed we were floating a river in a DB and started pulling bait divers in a nice hole. The current was kinda weird and we ended up tangling our lines. So we pulled to the side a little, dropped anchor and begin the de-tangle process. Another DB comes in to the hole, drops plugs right below us, works their way through the hole and the tailout, then move on. We don't say a word, the river was crowded and we expect to be low holed many times this day - we just shrug it off.
So a few minutes later, we are untangled, and decide to finish running the bait through the hole and move on (since the other boat just plugged it as well).
A few minutes later we pass the other DB. The guy turns to us with a pissed off look and says something like "You should have told me you would be moving out so fast, I would like to have worked that hole a bit more. I try to give you people a little room and ...." I don't know what else he said - it just turned into a bunch of grumbling, stuttering, and spitting.
Anyway, I don't float rivers often, but I was not aware that we violated some un-written rule. What's up??

Scew that guy!!! If he wanted to fish that spot a little harder he should have pulled aside and waited until you moved out. His lack of patience isn't your porblem. Sounds like he was pissed that you were on "His River". Once again screw that guy. I hate people like that.

That's pretty much what we did Scott. But being a 'cracker' and all - I just want to be sure and learn from my mistakes (if I did happen to make one...).

I have come to expect this kind of behavior on Peninsula rivers. I am not sure where you were but I fish the Hoh very frequently...and sadly this is a common experience. Last year I lent my boat to a friend who is a competent oarsmen and knowledgable fisherman. He beat a guide to the put in, firstwatered him about halfway through the drift and then pulled ashore to let the guide pass by and have his own first water.
Pretty noble of him I'd say...
When the guide caught up to him he said some very nasty things about my friend's female passenger, insinuated he was poaching and mentioned that "he'd heard gunshots" and "my friend better watch out because it was dangerous downriver".
We laugh about it in retrospect...all the scrawny little man was capable of was bluster....
I see him out there all the time,I am sure he knows my boat...the back of it anyway.
Best thing you can do is be extremely patient and if you are inclined towards vengeance, beat them at their own game. Beat them to the takeout, outfish them...respectfully and silently.

PP, I'm with Vic...skew that guy...I have found that threatening river bullies with a good long sharp skewer really puts the fear in their eyes FJ...out.

Were ever you go there will be bad apples. I have found that the people that truly appreciate the outdoors and fishing also enjoy each other.Just think about all the nice people you have met on the rivers. I just try to be positive.

Doesn't seem to me as if you were the rude one at all. Sounds like he just wanted you to stay the hell out of his way. Shruging it off is, by far, the best bet. I know this is true. I really do, and I dearly wish I better at it but I probably would have stopped and tried to find out just how much of the river the dude actually held clear title to. That's just me but I'm getting better as I get older. Never, never, never let some jerk who thinks he owns the river spoil your day. You gotta look at yourself in the mirror every morning before you go to work.

Some people get what they deserve and it's his fault for not being more in tune with what was going on instead he chose to race to the next hole. The only thing you could have done different is to yank a fish out right next to him and say plug this mo/fo. It's amazing how many people out there are like him, you just have to shrug it off there's plenty of water out there.

Makes me glad I live on the East Side-have only run into one other DB in the entire season!! We don't have your fish but we also don't have your fisherman!
