I have to replace all my trebles with a single, single point hook on my Kwickies for an upcomming fishing trip. I am not a single hook lover, and am looking for information from those that know more than me. What is the preferred hook and size in your opinion? thanks for the input.

Back the eye out of the tail and open it up with a couple pairs of pliers . Put in a number three barrel swivel .Close the eye back up and re-insert . Pinch on your favorite siwash hook . I prefer 3/0's for K-14s and 4/0s for K-15's .

I have had great hook ups and landing percentages with this set up .

thanks to "Hogtide" for this tip.

Good God, Back to the Salmon again... You'd think after that trip with the summer fish, you'd be hooked... wink As for the set-up to use just put a single 2/0 or 3/0 siwash stainless Gami off the back of the kwikie. Forget the belly hook. You'll actually up your hookups with this over trebels too... Don't ask me why though, you'd think 2 trebels (6 hooks) would up the odds....

What way do you point the hook?

They will be on a swivel so you don't need to to worry about direction.

Also, with this set up,if you twist the shank of the hook a few degrees to look more like an octupus hook, you will increase your hook ups. This way the hook won'slide out of the mouth as easy and the hook seems to set in the back of the mouth more often.

I use this set up all the time and it works better than trebs IMO.

Thanks guys, i will not only replace my "front" eyes with larger eyes (makes them dive deeper) but will attach a good swivle to the butt eye and then add a respectable large king hook ( say 7/0 or 8/0) (big kings) siwash to the swivel. last trip up there I fished first run kings for a trophy, best fish I landed was approx 65 lbs, and she had long tail lice. but about 5 inches too short.......... back she went with tears in my eyes....... every year we hook and release at least a few 50+, but I am ont the quest for that elusive 70+ pounder,,,,,,,,,,,, maybe this year......... great fun, but not as many fish as tillamook on a per day basis, unless you count landing 50+ reds a day in the count.............

FB ... Most of the Kenai guides run 8/0 or even 9/0 on their 16's done up like ReiterRat explains. But, I know a number of guides on the Kenai that swear that they miss way more fish than when running eggs with the std. Kenai length setup and cutting off the top hook at the bend. Personally, the days I've fished the Kenai, I've had much better success landing fish going the egg w/ single hook routine myself.

We went through single hook restrictions for a spell last month and in the dirty water(about 4" of vis) of the Kasilof we lost lots more fish than normal ... although we normally miss more than most people would expect to see anyhow in there. Can't say that I'm one of those that say it works as well ... but I haven't done it much in cleaner water situations ... that's how the Kenai is running this year.

Good luck!

Hey Reiter Rat

Is the hook set up mentioned above, the same one that was used last fall? I sure hope not, or my feelings are going to be really hurt. So are Ugly Chucks.
