There is this one guy on one of the rivers I fish that is there most of the time I go. It seems he never has anything nice to say to anyone and is always being a pr!ck. How do you deal with people like this? This a-hole brings his dog every time he goes and his dog has nipped at people in the past and he does nothing about it. He doesnt put his dog on a leesh. People complain to him and he has a "f#$#$ you attitude. The strange thing, is this guy is about a buck thirty five in weight and cocky as all hell. How are you supposed to deal with someone like this?

Kick the dog in the lips. One way or another things will get settled after that.

those guys are everywhere, they either dont know or dont care, i talk to them and find out if they dont know or dont care, 95% of them dont know ,so talking works,, i usually avoid these guys, but if they make tuff for me and other guys fishing i will say something, only once has it come to blows, he had it coming though flog

Yuk. Good idea though. Although I would hate to go to jail for breaking into someones car to put dead fish in it. I'd rather throw the guy in the river if im going to go to jail.

My first reaction as a recovering redneck is to simply shoot the dog if it menaces me. If you want to be nice, you tell him first to put the dog in the truck before you shoot it. You'd be safe legally if you can show that the dog has bit people before. But that's a little over the top, so I'd suggest the following.

Bring a package of hamburger. Walk by the guy, tell him that you don't appreciate his dog running around and that there is rat poison in the hamburger. Lay the hamburger on the ground next to where you are fishing, making sure that he sees it.

It's his responsibility to contain his dog, not yours to keep his dog from getting in trouble.

I say this as a dog owner who takes his dog fishing. I like to have my dog along, but I make sure that she doesn't pester people, let alone menace them.

This is a good response. The hamburger thing is good. It doesnt change the fact that the guy is a jerk though. I have a feeling if you tell him you have poisoned food he would just kick it into the river. There is more of a problem with him than just the dog. I have a feeling though that the reason that he acts the way he does is because he knows the dog will back him up in case of a scuffle. frown poor poor dog.

Bring along an animal control buddy laugh

And better yet take that hamburger(before the doctoring) and have a nice little shore lunch.

As far as the Dude!! If he is not personally bothering you or casting over you, who cares what his attitude is.

You could just bring a group of buddies or just one off balanced friend to help deal with the problem, or don't fish there.

There is alot of water to fish!!

That sucks though there is always someone around like that!!

Everybody, let's be clear, I haven't suggested actually putting poison in the hamburger. I'll shoot a dog if I have to, but poison is cruel. The point is to make the jerk deal with his dog.

The guy probably has a small package and needs to make up for it by being a dick. Everytime he opens his trap just think about his poor wife that hasn't been done right in years and you won't be able to keep from laughing. I believe doctors call it small man syndrome.

Fish another river, the hassles are not worth it. There are a million different places to fish. Remember, more than half of fishing is being out there in the woods, hangin out with good friends, noone bothering you, enjoying the day.

Look, I believe in totally having a great time out fishing! unfortunately all the good places to fish are crowded with goof balls like this guy and his dog.... so, there are really only 2 options here either kill the dog and his buddy or fish where you can enjoy the scenery and all this planet has to offer, the mountains, evergreen trees, the sound of the stream as it makes its journey to sea, and you have this stream all to yourself... BUT THERE ARE NO FLIPPIN FISH THERE STUPID!!! SO JUST GO WITH OPTION ONE!!!!
sincerely,

If talking won't solve your problem and you cant fish around this jerk, there are some pretty evil option left for you to do evil evil evil

The dog is not the one to blame, so leave the poor animal alone. Blame the person who has not trained the dog! If you really have to make your point, don't take it out on the dog …take it out on its owner! If you don't want this jerk fishing around you, you can always make "him" brake into his own car or truck for his actions! laugh laugh

I hear that supper glue can play hell with a door lock …or two!!! evil evil

Remember one thing…for every action…there's always a "reaction"!!

If a dog bites me, it gets to meet the business end of my fish bonker. If the dog bites one of my kids, it meets my fillet knife. If the owner objects, he better just verbally object, or he'll wind up writing in the other thread that talks about getting hurt while fishing.

There is no way I will tolerate any loose animal that bites, on the river or anywhere else. It's too bad for the animal that they are stuck with irresponsible owners. mad

You know, maybe I'm being too hard on the guy. The dog thing is definitely out of line, but im sure some day he'll run into someone that will deal with that for sure. I dont know too many people that like dogs running around while they are fishing.

Most of the complaints this guy has are usualy legitimate. I mean he doesnt just yell at someone for standing the wrong way. The problem I have and have had, is instead of being polite about it he's a total a-hole. I respond well to people that tell me Im being dumb as long as they are doing it in a polite way. smile But when someone just starts verbaly bashing you I respond in quite the opposite way.

I enjoy the guy sometimes because he can make a difference when some other buttholes crowd into the hole and start casting over everyones line or throwing trash on the ground, but Ive also seen him ***** at one of my friends for something he had done on accident. This guy has never really bothered me in the past because his aggresion has never been aimed at me, but this last weekend I finaly got my turn. The part that irritated me was "and im glad we left when we did" he found a bunch of gear left on the ground "the gear was obviously rigged for snagging fish! Huge line, Huge leg, huge hook" The guy asked me, and not in a nice way I might add, " Did your friend leave this sh!t here?" I answered with a smart assed tone to him and it pissed him off. He asked the question like he already knew the answer was yes without even knowing the person I was fishing with or what kind of guy he was. I left right after so there wouldnt be an accidental drowning one way or the other him or me. I'll more than likely be going back to this fishing hole cause usualy it produces nice fish and will probably run into this guy again. I just hope that if he's there when I invite someone along again, they dont have to deal with this guys crap as well.

As for the dog. If that dog ever nips at me or bites me, I will be making a trip right to the animal control center. I hate to punish his dog because he's to arrogant to make good decisions.

I haven't yet had any unpleasant dog encounters on a river (other then the rare occassion that Cordog outfishes me) but if I ever felt threatened I would definitely have my knife handy and wouldn't hesitate to use it, I don't care if its the owners fault that the dog is aggressive, I'm going to defend myself.
Only ? is, I have a Kershaw 3 blade knife, do I filet the dog or gut him?
