This may be a stupid question but...

Has anyone had Linex, RhinoLine, etc. applied to the outside bottom of their fiberglass drift boat?

I was thinking of having this done to my DB and didn't know if it was a good idea...

Approximately what was the cost?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Tight Line!!! what

Why would you want to? A glass boat is slick enough and if the gel coat is getting scraped up you can fix that with more gel coat. I have Line-X on the bottom of my sled and it is ok, it slows the thing down a little but is bullit prof. I would never put it on my DB though.

Hope this helps

Sure would make the effort to row the thing greater. These linings are indestructable for sure, but they also are not a smooth finish. They have a texture which will create drag in the water. That much texture would be a noticeable amount of drag. I would re-glass it, even add another layer of some heavy woven mat as well for protection.

Then again, what the hell do I know.......

I had a Clackacraft that I bought off a buddy, he Arma-coated it and we both really liked it, it was a slick, smooth finish that didn't change the rowing characteristics much if at all, it also took a little of the flex out of the fiberglass. He had the boat for a year or so before he coated it and it had a # of cosmetic scratches and dings, after coating we had the boat for 5-6 more years and it never showed any scratches/dings.
As for cost, he worked at the Kent Arma-coating before they closed up shop, he did it one night after work for nothing, It seems like he said it would have cost 3-400 bucks. As of 2 years ago, there was an Arma-Coating in Sequim across the street from Costco.
When I get my next DB, it will be glass and I'm going to look for an A-C shop.

If you planning on keeping the boat over the long term I would contact Ron at Lavro. They recoat the bottoms of their boats and they may do others also. I have seen the job they do and it is great, like new. The boat I saw was over 20 years old and had been hammered on low water for years on the Mollala River in Oregon and when they were done the bottom looked great. When I saw it the boat had been used a couple more seasons (since the refinish) and the finish was holding up well.
