Warning first.
Those of you with boats, be careful to stay out of the left lane and carpool lane when you're trailing it. I was lucky enough to recieve an $86 ticket for the offense, while trailering down to fish the Cow. Got nailed right before going over the Nisqually bridge. I wasn't holding up traffic, was moving right along with the commute, etc. Not even speeding. I heard later from some folks that that stretch of I-5 sees a lot of these tickets. I honestly didn't even know of that law. The ignorance was my fault, but everyone I've talked to has ever heard of the law either. Anyway.... beware!

Question second.
I have an 18' supervee LT with tiller steering. I bought a fishfinder and now want to mount the thing on the boat. I want to minimize holes drilled in the boat, and maximize usable space while hiding cables. There aren't a lot of surfaces to mount the unit on, and I was thinking in the tackle tray near the kicker, but I need that space for when I'm boondogging, so now I'm stumped. Anyone else have the same dilemma, and how did you solve it? Thanks folks.

You can be in the car pool lane with a trailor. But not the normal left lane. There is also a max gross wt limit for the left lane but can't recall what it is.

There are certain stretches of I-5 that have signs that state "VEHICLES WITH TRAILERS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE TWO LEFT LANES" or have a GVWR restriction. You have to pay attention and be looking for those signs because they are not in all areas.

If there are more than two lanes in each direction trailors cannot use the inside lane.

Not counting the HOV lane.

Thanks for the heads up. I head down to the Cowlitz 10 to 15 times a year. I have used the left going north and south many times. Not worth 86 bucks that is for sure.
Won't do that any more. beathead beathead

I saw signs (on the way home!!) coming N on 405 that prohibitted trailers and heavyweights in the HOV too. So watch those signs carefully, and to be safe, stay out of the left lane(s).

Does anyone know, are these county laws or state laws? If they're county, how in the heck are you supposed to follow all of it??????

How about using the left lane to pass? Or do we have to stay behind grandma going 55 in a 65 all day? beathead

The various HOV lanes aren't consistent for the rules.

520 headed to the Evergreen Bridge requires 3 people in the car to qualify.

405 says only restriction is 10K pound weight and 2 people. Trailers ok.

I-90 says 2 people and no trailers. Don't know if it lists a weight restriction

I-5 must say 2 people and no trailers based on the guy getting the ticket for his trailer.

Since I do my commute via I-405 every day I see lots of lawn maintenance trucks pulling a trailer in the HOV lane. Somehow I think they weigh more than 10K.

Bummer on the $86 ticket. Take a look at mounting your finder with a Ram Micro mount. I am not real familular with your particular boat but have used ram mounts to mount finders, gps units and radios in places that may not have accomidated them before. the ram mount requires a smaller footprint. Check them out on Cabelas.

good luck. laugh

Anyplace on an interstate with 3 or more normal lanes in 1 direction it is illegal to use rthe left lane if pulling a trailer or over what I thought was 12000 lbs gross but could be 10000lbs.
I commute to Portland and back for work and see a lot of people doing it,but also see people getting tickets for it.
There are actually quite a few signs posted with the warnings but I think most people just dont notice them.
This subject was talked about several months ago.Unfortunately you must have missed it,or it might have saved a ticket.
Everybody else appreciates the heads up though I bet.
