This link was just forwarded to me by an old pal regarding the avalanche that killed the skiers / boarders last week in BC.

This hits kinda close to home as Craig and I were fraternity brothers at the UW.
Makes you think about that no matter how careful you are, being outdoors always carries with it some serious risks.
At least he passed doing what he loved to do. Craig, I hope that you find endless steep slopes of the light and fluffy!

That is certainly a tragedy. I have been riding for 14 years, and when snowboarding first came out he was a Hero, an Idol to all people of a young sport. I hate bad news sometimes ![frown frown](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/frown.gif)

That's awful
Sky-Guy you must have started snowboarding around when I first started 1988. I still have my Burton Air board,in storage, that was one step down from the Craig Kelly Air board, that year.
Craig was "the man" when I started, that is really bad news. Bob condolences for the loss of your friend.

He was definitely one of my heros back in the day. I started in '89 on a Barfoot Twin Tip...but I always wanted one of his boards! he will be sorely missed - R.I.P. Craig! thanks for everything you did for the sport!

Oh how it is a small world that we live in, I also ride and have been for 15yrs. It is my third greatest passion at this point in my life(fishing, skateboarding, snowboarding)and does change places with the second now and again. I had the oppurtunity to not only meet Craig, but also ride with him a few times at Mt.Baker, and can only say that out of my lifetime I have came across four people that I will never forget for the rest of my life, Craig being one and another boarder and fisherman, the late Scott Stamnes, and two others that still live. But it seems that the greatest are taken too early, but early or not they left a mark that you would never forget if you had the chance to meet them, which I consider myself to be blessed, RIP Craig Kelly and Scott Stamnes for your mark on this world will never be forgotten.

I've been snowboarding for seven years and talked to Kelly once for about half an hour. Very cool guy and it's so sad that the one rider with the most soul had to go and get killed. Didn't know there were people other than myself who live to fish and ride....

Crazy he has a daughter named Olivia too, same name as my Lil' one. Kore, I do have a Burton Air in my garage as well. Black and purple on top with big lettering under the tail that says"AIR"was a great stick. My first one was a sparrow tail Avalanche. Nothing like rocketing down the slopes with bindings that basically tied your feet to the board. RIP Craig Kelly, you meant alot to the sport and everyone you met. While on the tpic of Snowboaring on a fishing forum, I must say I love going fishing on the way to or the way back from the pass sometimes, when I go to Stephens. Makes for an all around perfect day. Only once have I ever gotten the chance to rest a steelie in the snow while I flew down the slopes for the day. How cool is that!

I hit the Sky once on the way back from Stevens (no fish), but typically after a day on the slopes, especially when conditions are good, my ass is ragged to the extent that I want to kick back a bit. Was up at Stevens yesterday, 8 inches of fresh. River looked OK above Monroe, but saw only one guy out, upstream of Sultan....
