Hey all-

A friend and I are interested in resident BM fishing this weekend. Is there any shore access that anyone would be willing to suggest? Any other tips are more than welcome too. If this is just plain not an effective way to go about fishing for them please be honest because we can figure something else out too, we would like at least a chance of hooking something! Thanks in advance.
Josh

This time of year,it may be tough to catch many salmon off the beach. I always see people fishing off the fishing pier across from the ferry dock in Edmonds. I walk along the pier quite often ,and I don't see alot of salmon caught, but on occasion people get a few.

In the S. end, there's the Les Davis pier,Redondo and Des Moines pier and the Pt. Defiance boathouse pier.

Even if you don't get any salmon,it's better than sitting at home. smile

Steelie,

Your chances of catching a "decent" BM from shore is slim as the fish start heading to deep water at first light unless the bait is thick. There are two spots that I know of where an occasional BM is caught from shore- Clay Banks and Pt Evans. You can only access these spots on a low tide. I am not sure how low of a tide, but it would need to be fairly substantial.

Might want to look into renting a boat at Seacrest and going that route.

The best place to hook a Blackmouth while fishin from shore was at Pt. Defiance. I've seen a few caught at Ft. Casey on Whidbey Island and also at Pt. Evans. Fishin fer Blackmouth from shore is pretty ineffective. About the only way you'll have any luck is if you fish a point that has a good back eddy which will concentrate the bait. Fish at low tide (at Pt. D anything less than a +1 foot would work) and fish low light conditions. Ideally a minus tide shortly after first light is the best time. I've managed to catch a few over the years by doing just that.

Almost forgot -- There are some piers around that also can be effective, Pt Defiance boathouse, Fox Island etc.

Wish I could help ya out with some info on places closer to home..

Use the largest glow lure you can get away with.

Godd luck

Sincerely,
Roger

I have caught alot of 3 lb dinks flyfishing here in kitsap, early mornings around points with eel grass, adjacent to deep water and current. and add low tide and baitfish to that equasion in the right spot and it becomes fairly realstic to catch something. but I think around the kitsap, key penninsulas and whidbey island are your best shot. fishing across the water reminds me off the moon.

Dude hit one of the area piers. Your best bet would be Pier 86, Edmonds and Seacrest, in that order. Lots of 3" herring, baby sticklebacks and squid around. 2-oz white herring Darts and frog or squid-pattern Websters have been working. Or you can jig up some bait and mooch herring or float a live squid...

Try fishing from the Seacrest Pier at a high tide preferably in the wee early hours of first light. Use white Buzz Bombs.
