I am in the market for a new casting rod for steelhead. Most of my fishing is done from the bank with corky and yarn however I ocasionally fish with a float and jig. I pretty much have it narrowed down to either a gl3 or a lamiglas cetified pro. Is it worth paying a little extra for the gl3. Any advice would be much appreciated. Would even consider a different rod from the two mentioned above if there is something else I should be looking at.

I have a 1263 Gl3 and its awsome for float fishing and drift fishing. You cant go wrong with a gloomis and it's worth every penny. you wont be dissapointed!! hope this helps.

The Certified Pro and the GL3 are both good rods. DO NOT waste your money on a Lamiglass Espirit.

Have someone build you a Rainshadow blank in whatever size you want. Supposedly the same graphite modulas as GL3 although slighly heavier in weight. You can have it built with your choice of colors probably for less than the Lami Cert. Pro. The 1143 would be a good choice for steelies/coho and maybe a 1264 for larger fish like chinook or chumskies in fast current.

I'm with Beezer....an 1143 is just about the perfect combo rod. Great drifter and will keep line off the water for float fishing. My GL3 is really sensitive and the slower action makes it more fun to fight fish.
I haven't tried the Rainshadow version yet but if $ is not an issue, you can't go wrong the GL3 1143.

This question comes up alot on all the mesage boards and in conversations that I have with other people all the time....I always say the same thing. Buy the one that feels right in your hand,,,I have seen people use just about every thing to fish with and the guy who always does the best is the guy that is most comfortable with his equipment and compfortable with the fishing technic that he is doing. I have a GL2 that I drift with and a cheap shimano convergence 10'6 that I use for dink floats...works great for around $50 bucks. so go out pick up a rod either take your own reel, or have the sports department place a reel on it and stand there and pretend to make a cast, set the hook, just hold and look it over real good. JUST DONT DO THE UGLY STICK TEST Always check all the eyes, even top quality rods get damaged in store settings, (carry a few Q-tips in when you go to buy a rod, run a Q-tip around both sides of the glass insert of the eyes. If there are any cracks, snags, or jagged edges it well rip off some of the swap material).....good luck..DJ
