The new regulations state that spring chinook fishing opens above Bonneville dam this year. I am just a little confused on what exactly within the Bonneville pool is open. It states that it is open to all fishing (bank and boats alike) above Power Island.
Bank fishing only being open on the Oregon side of the river between Bonneville and Power Island. Where the heck is Power Island???? Is it above Bonneville just a ways or is it closer to the Dalles Dam?? Because if it is the island I am thinking ...that means that basically the whole Bonneville pool is open to bankies and boats. Can anybody tell me where Power Island is? Thanks.

Yea they discussed it over there. From what I remember the island is pretty close to the Dalles Dam, so you don't have a lot of territory to work with from a boat.

From WDFW: Fishing will open Saturday (Feb. 15) from the Interstate 5 bridge upriver to McNary Dam for hatchery spring chinook. Within Bonneville Pool, only the area from the Tower Island powerlines upstream to The Dalles Dam will be open. Besides marked (adipose fin-clipped) chinook, shad and hatchery steelhead may also be retained. The fishery is expected to remain open through May 15.

From ifish:
"Tower Isle is a couple miles below the Dalles Dam. Basically it is the same as last year. You can just fish right below The Dalles Dam in the Bonni pool."

The only open part of the Bonneville Pool is from the Dalles dam down to the Powerline, about 6 miles I believe. Drano and the mouth of the Wind will still open, but technically aren't considered part of the Bonneville pool. That is why they have to bouy line marking the outside boundary at the Wind, and of course Drano is considered a "lake", not part of the pool. My guess is that you will hear when Drano and the Wind mouth open shortly after the first 'North of Falcon' meeting that is today, I believe.

The only people allowed to fish the rest of the Bonnie pool are....you guessed it... the tribes. The last two years you could see them just wacking the springers outside the bouy line at the Wind. At least they were fishing rod/reel, which means I'm all for it!!
