I am thinking of doing a Vancouver Island steelheadathon in April. Any current info on the Salmon, Gold, Nimpkish or other island rivers?

Another good source of information is the B.C> Freshwater Fishing Atlas which gives angling information on most waters, including access and run timings. The 1994 edition is especially helpful as it gives a detailed run-down on Vancouver Isle streams.

It's me, your Harrison River salmon buddy, if you're going on a "steelheadathon", call me. I'm due for some big steelhead, cigars, Kokanee beer and stories.

the gold river would be your best bet. a lot of the rivers up north are early rivers. ( dec). a lot of the west coast vancouver island rivers have good runs of wild steelies, but access is dificult.

In the month of april, your best 2 bets are the gold or salmon. No bait is allowed, sinlge barbless hook. You can use a drift boat on sections of both river to drift them. Try stopping at River Sportsmanot Tyee marine in Campbell river for drirection/maps on what drifts you may want to do. South Island steelhead fishing will be finished in April.

Surecatch: In some countries, Tequila IS a drug. I do fish for steelhead: I stand in my bathroom shower fully dressed with waders on, the water on cold and full force. It's the same effect and the same number of hits that most steelhead anglers have had this season. The only problem is that the wife's nylons always get tangled up with the beer.
