I have a TH Rainshadow 1264. Is it too heavy for bobber and jigs?

1264 is a sweet all-around float rod. Do you have it in a spinning rod or casting? Shouldn't be too heavy at all for steelhead, just perfect IMHO.

I don't thinks so for two reasons:

1. With a 1264 when you stick a fish, they usually will stay stuck. That is to say I have used a medium action Certified Pro and a lot of the fish I hit would come unbuttoned in the first 10-15 seconds of the fight. You need more backbone for those long distance "sets" that are common with float fishing.

2. This reason is basically for wild fish. You can control/land the fish in a more timely manor with a stouter rod. If your fishing in any kind of current and you hit a "teener" or larger fish and you're fishing with something soft like a Cert. Pro or 1261 it's going to take a long time to land that fish (if it stays hooked) thus increasing the chance of hooking mortality due to lactic acid build-up. Basically the fish could very well fight itself to death.

A "1264" was the steelhead rod of choice to float fish up here in b.c. before sage change the number system around. If you fish pink worms or bait under floats , you have a really good all around rod.
