Is a sardine wrap the only way to put scent on your plugs for springers? What about using a sardine flavored scent? It seems like sardines would be a hassle.

Its really not that big of a hassle to wrap them with sardines. While your waiting for a bite you have a lot of time to kill. You can wrap a sponge or something like it soaked in scent on your quickfish if you don't want to wrap it.

If your not into wrapping your plugs and want to use scent, try a piece of Velcro. Just rub the Sardine/Herring onto the velcro. If you don't want to use either of those, just put whatever kind of scent you prefer. It works fine!!

Why don't you try it both ways and see which one catches fish then make your own decision whether it is worth it or not. Hard to beat a sardine wrap.

Just a thought

Opinion runs both ways. Having caught nearly a thousand lbs of fish on unwrapped flatfish before any of us ever heard of sardine wraps, I know unwrapped plugs work. However, I just had a day yesterday where I am convinced that the wraps and scents we put on led to our success. By changing wraps and applying scent, we got 11 strikes, 7 fish on, five to the boat, when everyone else was struggling for their first fish.

In summer water, I'm confident fishing without scent. For springers, I want stink.

You won't see many guides running bare kwikies for kings.

Hey silver,
a month or so ago you asked about camping around cathlamet. how's stuff workin out for you this springer season? i've been getting mixed reports from both upriver from Skamok. and downriver also. Seems spotty. What really sucks is when i'm sitting in Utah and get a call from MY boat anchored up off White's Isle. and there is three springers onboard (amidst a bunch of yo-yo's into thier second half-rack of McTarnahans). I better see some fed-ex'd fish in the next few days beathead .

anyhow, just curious as to how your season is going on the LC.

It was slow, but this past week things have been picking up. Got one on friday, skunked on saturday, and held a springer clinic on sunday. Best day I've ever had, more than doubled my previous personal best. Got to finish taxes so I can get back there and put some more wood to 'em.

Here\'s the full report.

I know all about getting those phone calls. Wait a minute, no I don't, I'm the one making them. laugh

Got a call from a friend as we were rebaiting after our fourth fish. Told him I'd have to call him back after the lines were back out - fishing was too hot.

I have heard that Thick Sliced Bacon works quite well too. Just cut it and wrap it like you would Sardine or Herring.

Quite a few have been taken with Banana Wraps this season. Just make sure to put it on skin side down.

sardine has more oil than herring and many say that , that is what leads it to be a better attractor than herring. the best scent is the scent of no nets
