I know it is a little early, but trying to get a feel for who might be interested in a Blackmouth derby this coming October in Area 13? (Hopefully I'll be home by then!) Saturday (11th) over the three day weekend would probably be best for all.
With the added extra time, this leaves a lot of time for planning and preparations...
One thing I would like to see is getting the kids involved. Maybe their own Winner's Ladder and gifts as prizes.. However, I am open to all suggestions.

Whatever timeframe or species, I'll help you organize DR. I want to get my little girl out fishing too, and with other kids, that would only make it more fun.
One suggestion, maybe our own little Silver derby with the kids in September?? At that time the weather will be more likely to cooperate, and there are plenty of fish around.
What do ya think everyone?

Carl,
I am not sure we'll be back before Sept... (I need a fishing de-tox center out here.)
October still has a few good days of weather? November is generally crappy. Dec is the Narrow's derby.
I nailed a lot of BM last Oct!
Seeking opinions....

I'd be there and my son would be excited about having a few other kids to hang out with afterward.

I will be in Cabo for a week or so in oct, not sure of the dates yet( Sammy's Bday and big fish :p :p :p ) Other than that you all saw the pic of my son, Like I would not be there??? I think some kind of kids division, or even gear the whole thing towards Kids would be great. If I can help I will

That's normally the duck opener DR, but this year they have already promised only half a season, so I don't have any idea when opening day will be. If I'm not duck hunting I'll join the fun - will be tired of catching GH silvers by then anyway :p Oh yeah, my new Lodge has landed 19 springers in 5 days

Will be polling info in the next few weeks... Looking at derby fees, interest in a potluck after the weigh-in, date, volunteer, etc...
Still seeking any ideas/suggestions so I can put this poll together. Fire away!

How about the weigh-in and after party at a place where younger people can participate? Like at the Alkai ramp there is a nice park there. That way you don't have to be 21 to enter the derby.

Alki Ramp after area an 13 derby Steve? That's a long run after fishing!
I was thinking Saltwater S.P. would be good bet... not too far from PD.
DR, What about Penrose point park. Ever been there and have any thoughts on that? do they have a dock to tie up to?

Sky,
I live less than a mile from Penrose. I was considering that, however, there is no dock and the water get super thin at low tide...
I was thinking weigh-in at Narrow's Marina followed by a picnic setting at Titlow...
One other thing I have in mind.... Largest crab! Tons of Red Rock in 13... with a cook-off afterwards...
One thing I like about 13 is the 2-fish limit. However, if we centrally locate the derby we may get more participants.

DR, You gettin any chance to fish or are you steamin all the time? When you comin home? From what's been posted I think the blackmouth round here have taken up a collection to buy your mooring lines, don't hear much talk of anybody cacthing many since you left, and the fish would probably just as soon you stayed gone. That's not the case with the fisherman, hope you stay safe and get to come home soon. Thanks DR. herm

Can we have the weigh in at Titlow so there will less down time between pulling off the water and getting the picnic going. I'd think we could also reserve one of the sheltered picnic areas in the park in the unlikely event it rains.
I second the vote for a derby where we target both coho and blackmouth.
FYI Just learned from Tacoma City Parks that October is outside of their reservation period (for sheltered picnic areas). Its first come first serve. Bad news is no beer in the park.

I agree Oct isn't the prime time (but close) however, I can't plan anything out any earlier at this tenure. My schedule just doesn't permit it.
There will be three species in Area 13 in Oct- Silvers, BMs and early Chums headed for the deep south (Kennedy, John's and Zipper)
Let me throw this idea on the table.... How 'bout the derby on one day followed by the picnic the following day (maybe different areas)? Might have more participation from the PP board for the picnic. Just a thought...
I think Titlow is a great location for the weigh-in and picnic. I am saddened by the beer rule- trust me. However, if a few want to run across the street for a couple of frosty ones ????
Keep throwing ideas out...
Herm, Had the chance for a little fishing, but decided to head the COLD BEER route instead. Will, get another chance shortly...
Wish we were enjoying the nice cool weather with all the folks back home. It has been upper 90's last couple of days...

Yep, Alkai is a long way from area 13, I was simply suggesting an area similar in 13. I don't know the shoreline of area 13 real well, but although Salty's was great, we might better think about a better turn out. Could be possible to get have the board out there! Guess I better get a crab pot or two, or just have Carl send a couple of his downrigger recovery salvages to me!

I think I can give the ol'river a rest for one day. Count me in. Remember that we will need to at least do the derby before the change of the clocks. Starts getn darker by than. Might have to have an early weigh in.

I think I can safely speak for two boats, mine for sure. Last year the Narrow's Derby was great and wasn't it good for sales? May I suggest we use our dollars to support the retailers that support us. I vote for Narrow's if the logistics work out.

I'm still willing to help you out with this, that is, if you'll help me with my derby in Late January next year!
First things first, have to decide on a date and place. a one-day derby will be alot easier for most of us to attend. I would suggest a place that is either at the boat launch or very near it, because after a day of fishing the last thing any of us want to do is run all over to get somewhere. Keep it easy and the attendance goes up.
Additionally, you have to decide on the scope of prizes you want to offer, or keep it a social (which may be alot easier under the circumstances.)
If we are to have a derby for BM, that doesnt really go well with a kids derby IMO. I think they should be separate. I dont want to bring out my little girl at o dark thirty to fish BM and have her out all day until a 2-3 o'clock weigh in and BBQ, she would never make it, and I am sure alot of the other board members little ones wouldn't either.
For the kids, I think a mid morning to afternoon, separate get together would be easier....targeting silvers.
Just my observations. Let me know what I can do to help.
