Just want to see what everyone's opinion is on what the best fishing magazines are. Yes, I know that web sites are great, but it's tough to read them while sitting in a boat or on the can.

For local, I'd say that F&H News is probably the best for finding out where to go, just don't go there when the magazine just comes out. And, yes, I read it! Don't crucify me!. The Reel News is best for political goings on.

For national, I'd have to go with In Fisherman. They have the most in depth fishing strategies, and give a pretty good rounding out of most freshwater species. Outdoor Life and Field & Stream are OK, but I'd rather read In Fisherman. Wish that they published more often than 8 times a year, though.

Hands down, the best magazine on fishing is Northwest Fly fishing. Excellent publication, with no other, IMO, quite as interesting. Good mix of destinations, photography, conservation, technique, politics, and humor.

And of course, its on fly fishing. What else is there? laugh

Can my Cabela's Catalog count?? If not, I'd have to go with F&H News. Never have picked up an STS but have heard a lot of good things about it. I'll have to check out a copy one of these days.

I've read Salmon Trout Steelheader, but I didn't list it because... I don't usually fish for salmon, trout, or steelhead. And yes, I realize they do publish stuff about other species, but all others take a distant second behind the salmonids, as the title implies. It's an OK publication if you fish for those species the majority of the time, but damn is it small. I feel like I could buy twice the magazine for the same price.

Salmon Trout Steelheader is a great magazine for the steelheader/salmon guy. Not a ton of info on trout. I like it because its a "how-to" not a "where at" magazine.

Fishing Holes was(?) a good mag but i havent seen it in awhile. I think im on my last subscription to F&HNews - There isnt very many "zippers" left thanks to the "hot spot pimps"

Cabelas and Luhr Jenson are good catalogs

I don't subscribe to any of them but I always thumb thru STS at the grocery store, thats probably my favorite. There's a fishing mag. in B.C., think its called B.C. Sportfishing, thats also a pretty good one.
I don't care much for the Fishing and Hunting (propaganda) News for obvious reasons, or the Reel News, I don't mind there anti-commercial stance but I see alot of mis-leading info in that mag. (Prime example, read J.D. Wade's story on fish farms a couple month's ago, what a bunch of lies. )

I'v just gotta say I don't find a whole lotta useful info in the regional hunting/fishing rags, with articles printed for the bizzilienth time on Forks area streams, the Cowlitz, etc.

I was looking through the back issues for several years of the WA and ORE Outdoorsman (or what ever its called I can't remember the name) but it was almost like the same stories are recycled every year or two for the given month.

I only subscribe to Northwest Fly fishing and Fly Tyer. I will often look at STS while I am out shopping with the wife. As far as H & F News- junk! The only thing that has ever came out of H&F News was a misprinted price during a boat sale. That's when I went and bought my boat for $4,200 less than what they wanted for the sale price. Should have seen their faces when I showed them the ad...

I get STS, Fly Tyer, and NW Fly fishing. See, in my aspect, I was bought a subscription to In fisherman. I hated it. I strictly fish salmon/steelhead. I don't do ANY warmwater species. So it was given away to a few friends of mine.

I'd have to say Cabela's would count. I know I read that book cover to cover more indepth then some mags I see. LOL.

STS reader for about 18 years now. the only thing that sucks about it is that it only comes out every other month and takes about the same time to read as it does to walk back from the mailbox with it. fishing and hunting news and terry sheely's lack of reality ,propagand brainwash publication, "the reel news" are both complete pieces of **** that I would not even start a campfire with. best fishing show is "fishing with courtney and shelly" from BC. Those girls changed my mind on polygamy.....i want to marry them both

downriggin- funny typo error. I am sure that you dont really have a "he wife" smile laugh
