Went out to the Hat/Camano area yesterday to do get some of those tasty prawns and ended up with a bonus. We got to watch a pod of Killer Whales hunt, play with and then kill a rather large sea lion. It was very intersting to watch. They were tossing it around and then just started chomping. it took them close to an hour for this whole process. I don't know if this is the same pod that was in the Hood Canal a couple o months ago or not. I hope they stay around and do some chowing. As for the prawns that was only fair. Got enough for some good eating though. I've never seen so many pots out in the Camano area in all my life.

Love to hear reports like that Hoghunter!!! Hopefully, we'll all see them chowing on the seals more often. Last time I was off Camano on the Port Susan side, I saw what looked to be an Indian Commercial Boat. My guess, he was targetting shrim. I also saw lots of reading on the bottom (like a blanket). I'm wondering if that area is good for shrimp'n???

As I posted on the other link I was in the area sunday to . I missed the killer whales but i did see two gray whales south of hat by the ferry. They where moving north to hat island. My big question is this . killer whales kill other whales right. So why don,t we every hear about it. Does it not happen anymore? Tom

i watched a show in which the killer whales were trying to kill a baby gray whale, they didnt win the battle as the baby gray whale and the mother would spin round and round and if the killer whale would get in the middle it would be crushed..but however they did come upon a baby gray which was killed by a pod...

That would be cool to see. Most I have seen is a whale come to the surface and then go back under.

Got a friend that lives in Gold River B.C..He and his wife were in Nootka Sound when a pod of killer whales started ripping up a bunch of seals. They had to leave as the seals were trying to get in there boat to get away from them that good have been a very dangerous situation to be in.So if it happens again and your there CAUTION !! is a must or youe liable to have a seal with a hungry killer whale on its butt jumping into your boat, you might survive the seal but not the whale comeing in after it
