keep those pinks and silvers off of your line when you are fishing for Kings. I caught a ton of silvers and pinks yesterday but just could not get my line down to the depths I wanted without getting a fish.
I have heard some of you mention plugs for Kings but will these avoid the silvers and pinks? what kind of plugs?

it was crazy. i was pulling silvers up from 150 feet but they would hit the spoon or hootchie on the way down a lot of the time, not to mention right on the surface when I am letting out line to clip to the downrigger.
reeling up a lot of line on a downrigger got to be a pain in the a$$

Thats how it was for me last weekend in Neah Bay. Is that where you have been fishin? I tried letting the ball down super slow and 100mph they hit either way. Sometimes I think they slap the flasher. The only thing I can say is have fun landing a bunch of fish and fish fast.

Bigger whatever. make the lure or offering big enuff only a King would inhale.

Rebuke them severly!

Just remember that day when you caught a million fish the next day you can't get dog fish to bite!!!!

I thumbs experienced the same thing at Seiku last year, but with all the slow times we have around the Puget Sound, it's a ton of fun to just catch fish till your arms are sore.

I don't know why anyone would use a downriger, when you have that much fishing going on. You spend to much time rigging up and not fishing.
Get that rod in your hand, slap on a herring and mooch.
If you can get it down to the bottom, you need to work the bottom twenty or thirty feet. There are a lot of kings at other depths also, but too much action is a real bummer. ( too much rain, sun, wind, waves, not enough fish, too much fish, Don't worry I am never happy either. Who ever thought we would ever complain about to much fish.
Please don;t take me wrong, I am just trying to be funny.
Good fishing

no offense B. I quit with the DR after about 10 fish. It was my first time using a DR and I just had wanted to try it.

Does anybody use plugs to target Kings and try to avoid other species?

Yes I use plugs for kings, yes coho take them on the way down, but not as often as the other gear mentioned.Plugs are my go to bait when targeting kings when the pinks are thick.

When fishing for halibut at times. We have had kings hammer our jigs when dropping them or reeling them in.

At Neah Bay, try going in closer to shore.......the kings will be there but the silvers stay out where the deeper water is.
