Bear with me here, I need to tell the story on this one...

Launched at Manchester at 4pm with a guy from work named John that has never Salmon fished before and Directional Finder and TLG launched their boat down at Yukon Harbor. We started trolling Pt SW about 4:15 and marked some fish 120 feet down in 220 ft of water. Anyway, John and I trolled up around the point and DF/TLG started working their way south towards Amittyville. Well no action by 6pm, tide change is coming so John and ! start trolling down towards Amittyville as well. We get to about 75 yards away from the other boat when DF calls me on the radio and says TLG has a fish on but they had forgotten their net and wanted to use mine. No problem....I kick up the trolling speed a bit and start working over towards their boat. we get about 50 feet away and I look back at my rod and the DRclip released and my rod tip is doing the nookie dance, Fish On! So I fight my fish and land a nice 9lb nickle bright chinook (GSBT). TLG still has his fish on, so John takes the wheel and we nose the boat up to their boat, fish is right next to the boat so I net TLG's fish from the bow of my boat and hand it over. 12lb Nook (Herring Hood). ( I hope that wasn't illegal). Get the boats squared away and start trolling again and we didn't get 25 yards and DF has another fish on in the other boat, they still have the net and they land a nice 17lb 4oz pig (Herring Hood). By this time we had trolled about 100 yards away and no sooner did DF land his fish that John's rod releases, fish on! Uh-oh, the net is still in the other boat and this fish is fighting like a beast (and it's John first ever salmon, so I really wanted this guy in the boat!@). So DF and TLG start heading over to us, toss the net over just as this pig is up to the boat and John punches his first salmon, and it's a dandy. 19lbs 10 oz (DR Modified Hootchie). And this is not all.... we turn and troll south, DF and TLG are trolling north, we get about 1/4 mile apart and DF calls on the radio again....TLG has a fish on they need the net again. So we turn around and start trolling up (quickly), get about half way there and they call back on the radio and said they just played that one out and netted it with their hands, 10 lb nook (Herring Hood)! What a 1 hour bite! All 5 fish were caught between 6:35 pm and 7:20 pm, all in 130 feet of water with the riggers from 90 - 110 feet down. The first 4 were all within probably 100 yards of each other and the 5th was up closer to the copper roof. 3 on herring Hoods, 1 on GSBT and 1 on a DR Modified Hootchie. All with 1 net for 2 boats!

It was a fun night, and John was in Hog Heaven, getting a nice fish like that on his first ever salmon fishing trip!!

Think I'll be out there again tonight!

Right on JR, good story. Sounds like a good time was had by all last night! If that report doesn't get DD's juices flowin', nothin' will! smile Leave a couple out there for him on Sunday! Were these fish caught down by Amityville? Did you get any pics?

Thanks for the report!

Seacat,
Sorry, no pics, didn't take the camera out with us. The last fish Terry got was off the Copper roof. The other 4 were about 1/2 between Amittyville and that house up on the hill that looks to be still under construction (looks white but I don't think it has siding on it yet). Do you know the house I am talking about? We were in close too, 100 yards off shore maybe, and in 130 - 135 feet of water on every fish! Trolling both with and against the tide, trolling fast on a couple and slow on a couple. Think we just hit a school of fish that was on the bite.

DD should be back this weekend I think and I am sure he is itchingto get out there! I'll let you know how I do tonight.

So is Terry ready to admit that Southworth can be as good as Kalama yet? laugh

Nice report UM! The only problem with it is that I was not out there to enjoy the fishing with you!

Seacat,
Yeah, I think Terry is starting to warm up to the area! He even went to out and bought some flashers, hootchies and GSBT's. But that ten minute drive home is a killer!!
