i've hit the nisko in the past couple days, nothing yet. still a bit early i think, although there's often fish to be caught around this time in past years. i think we could use a few days of good rain

I fished yesterday and today both on the incoming tide and nothing.
Saw a couple of surfacing jacks but that's it.
Still early.

These fish really don't bite well. Lots of flossing.

Don't get caught snagging. Saw WDFW bust a guy for snagging last week. They called in the State Patrol to pick him up, and towed his rig away. Word is there looking to collect some major funds. Seen lots of WDFW action since the fish started to show. These guys can be really sneeky.
Also watch out for the M.P's , they can rip you also.
Nice to finally see tickets for litter being inforced. We need to keep it clean.

the majority of fish i hook out of the nisqually are fair hooked. mccallister is a different story. that place is snagger heaven, small water and big fish, i won't touch it and i've never even fished there, though i've spent my whole life in olympia

The good news is snagging won't be happening on McCallister much longer- the hatchery is closed down. Unless there is some natural spawning- doubtful. Bad new is a good portion of these fish are what makes the Green Can fishery decent. Time will tell.....

Yes, everyone listen to Rivernut...these fish dont bite! laugh Go fish the Puyallup, I heard those fish bite like there's no tommorrow.
While you all are gone Ill keep an eye on those "non-biters" wink
All kidding aside, the nisko fish are notorious for being lockjawed, and yes it does seem at times like they dont bite. Be patient, and dont follow the flock and you WILL find biters.

I work with the MPs from Ft. Lewis that patrol the Lewis side of the Nisqually, and they give me daily reports from the Fish and Wildlife Rep down in that area. They tell me that the run is still about a week to two weeks out but the Indians are steadily coming up with more and more numbers in their nets. I bet that with a little more rain, the fish will be there. E mail me for a report.

Rivernut,

I follow the regs closely but I hope you're not one of those people that feels they are empowered to enforce the regs themselves.

Now reporting blatant snaggers is great, but there has been a guy on the Hoh that I don't know from Adam who confronted me:

-"you're not using bait are you?"
-"you're not using trebles are you?"
-"are there fish in the cooler, can I look inside?"

Finally told him to **** off unless hes a game warden. Those types detract from my fishing experience and make me angry.

If some ass outside of an official fish and gamer came asking me about what is in my cooler, I would find that very alarming.

So is under the I-5 bridge the place you guys are talking about snagging and stuff? Hell, been there 4 times in 6 days and the only thing I have snagged is seaweed....

What is the secret.......arrrghhh this is so frustrating. I have yet to catch a damn fish.

Just to check the creek is NOT a floating lure water right?

I have been bouncing a white Pt Dart off the bottom...lost two so far arrgggggg

Help guys.....PLEASE

If it aint in its mouth the fish is properly released. Thank God Im not depending on my skills for sustinance (sp) LOL

never fished in the creek, but on the river i've always had the best luck just drift fishing. usually a bright colored corkie and yarn, with a 2/0 hook and about 2 or 3 feet of leader under enough lead to get it down to the bottom.

i think the fish just aren't in the river yet beathead i'm getting impatient!

the nisqually used to have a big humpy run, but you could never keep them. ironically, the run is pretty much non existant now, but you can retain pinks in the nisqually now

Didn't know you could fish under I-5. I've been under Mounts Road, never seen much snagging or catching there, just lots of wet lines.

Never knew there was access under I-5 though. confused

The salad being caught under I-5 has got to be from the creek, not the river. When the tide is running that stuff is everywhere. I have caught kings there in past years by plunking my bouncing rig. Right now it's too early. The indians traditionally put their nets in the beginning of July as per their normal schedule (in Sunday at 1200 and out Wednesday at 1200) until the end of January the following year. This is done whether there are fish in or not! Since I am now in Okanogan (Corps of Engineers, Chief Joseph Dam) my trips to the Nisqually will be when I visit the folks in Yelm. In the past I have always begun by fishing the gravel bar just upstream of I-5 the 3rd or 4th week of August. After that I fish from the tank crossing bridge to Muck Creek. I will be back a few times and especially when the chums are in in December. To my Nisqually fishing buddies, keep those lines tight! Tom

Hit the nisqually again last night on the incomming tide. Nothing showed till the tide was all the way up, but I didnt see anyone hook into a fish. There were a number of fish splashin around below mounts road but thats it. I did talk to one guy that said he caught one on sunday, which was the first I'd heard of anyone having any luck.

That guy lied to ya.
I fished it both sat, sun, and mon determined to catch a fish. But there were none.
Talked with the fish sampler on every trip and his log book was emptied.

2 more weeks.

I have yet to see a fish hooked. Dark pinks rolling everywhere. No bites at all.

Lots of talk about the Skok. Kings are stacked in there. Looks like a great run. Those fish bite alot better.

Every year the Nasy gets worse. Whats the deal?

Even the nets are getting skunked.????????

In years past you could walk across fish this time of year.

Lets hope it gets better.
