I'm finally going to try the Lewis for the first time this Friday morning. I have heard that the Golf Course is a good place to start. I will be on the bank.

Any reports? Advice?

I haven't been there in the past couple weeks but here's some ideas.

At the golf course boat launch, walk downstream along the river to the end of the path to where the WDFW aclimation ponds are located. WDFW aclimates summer steelhead here so many of them are returning to the same general area. So you probably won't be alone.

Begin at dawn and toss a black jig under a float. Purple or dark red are also good colors. Use light line as the water is low and clear. Bait is an option but since the water is very slow in this reach, drifting can be tough.

Another spot is immediately (100 feet) upstream of the boat launch, around the corner. The current is considerably faster and drifting bait is the preferred method. The water temperatures are probably in the low 50's. You won't need waders/hip boots or a net. Good luck.
