Anybody know what the law says regarding the requirement for licensing a 12' boat?

I have a 12' Smokercraft that I'm having trouble getting the title/tabs for. Just wondering if I'm going to get ticketed if I put it in the Skagit without tabs.

If it has a motor you must give the state it's cut.

What size boats with a motor are required to be registered?
All vessels with propulsion machinery are required to be titled/registered including sailboats 16 feet and over without any propulsion machinery. For information on other exemptions, please contact your local county auditor's office or closest vehicle licensing office.

Hey I'm glad this post came up. I built a drift boat and have reinforced and the transom to hold a kicker. I have a 15hp Evinrude which I have been triing to find a 9.9 decal or cowling (sp) under the impression that under 16' and under 10hp didn't need to be registered. I think that was the way it use to be?

Now I see that I get to go to my local licensing agent and try to explain that this is MY boat and I built it and I own it and it floats,

The 10hp rule is gone. (Along with all those 9.9 stickered 15's) I had to register my canoe 'cause I have a 3hp for it, and its 18ft.

I guess that in the long run it's ok .

As we have saved a LOT of $ with the car tabs deal
