Now the Dungeness is not a success story for wild pinks. Why is This?

It had a huge run up untill the early 60's. I believe in 1963 it had near 500,000 and it was thought many more before that.

Since the 60's I dont think it has got over 50,000 early and late run combined.

Strange

The Dungeness has been trashed by development, diking, armoring, water withdrawls, poor logging practices, and a hatchery that probably shouldn't be producing horrendous numbers of coho that weren't the dominate species in that watershed like they are now. Put the hatcheries where the dams are and the wild fish habitat isn't - hatcheries aren't needed on free-flowing rivers.
