Ever since I stepped up to the Cert. Pro series I've been tremendously impressed with Lamiglas. Phenomenal rod. However, I'm looking to purchase a 10 - 11 foot rod for jigging this winter. I've got two lami's - a nine six and a nine. My shimano is ten six but too heavy for light line fishing with jigs. However, the Shimano's a great "meat rod." I've been looking at all star rods and played around with one at sportco (99 bucks). It felt great and you can't beat the price (That's the main reason for my interest). If you've ever fished one, compare it to a lamiglas. I just might buy one this weekend. Also, is it possible to obtain a rainshadow in that pricerange?

i own a 1264 all star and it works great but i still prefer rainshadow. lamiglas is overpriced. my suggestion is that if you are not going to use the rod everyday, then focus on all star. you cannot beat the price. personally i would buy an all star before a lami. all star is pretty good about warranty also. tight lines, egg

I use the 10'6" lamiglas 6-10lb for float fishing. Not quite a float rod, but very very versatile rod capable of most everything I do. It's amazing how stout this rod is, yet it's a feather to the touch. I've stepped on it, scratched it, ran over it with the lawn mower, and it won't break. Less than half of the price of a Loomis. I hate Loomis, and most people who use them. Sorry, just had to throw that in

i like my lamis. half the price of a comparable loomis, and has a lifetime warranty. loomis is dead to me anyway, ever since they were bought out by shimano

Compared to a Loomis GL2 or a Lami Cert Pro I think the All Star Rods stack up real nice. Every once in a while I hear of a bad one, usually a bad blank, but they do have a nice return policy. I own Loomis, Lami's and All Stars, and I use the All Stars for boat/plugging rods like I would do with a Loomis GL2. It is true, you can get 2 All Stars for the price of 1 GL2, or at least close.

For high end rods, there is nothing better that I have found than Loomis IMX. On the high end, Loomis is great, but spendy.

Sorry to see you hate me Puppylove, but I bet I have nicer rods :p

I have been using a Rainshadow 10.5 foot for float fishing and also for some drifting and casting for nearly a year now and am verry satisfied with its performance.

I used an AllStar 1263S last year. I first tried to buy one at Ted's in Lynwood, but the sales guy told me not to because he had too many return broken.

Ended up buying one from Outdoor Emporium for myself for Christmas anyway, figuring with an over the counter return policy I'd be covered.

Worked well all winter jig fishing for steelhead (got quite a few). However, this summer it snapped in two while I was making a leisurly cast with a 1/8oz jig and small float. Hard to believe as I barely loaded the rod up.

So I called Outdoor Emporium to get a new one and they were out. So they ordered a one from AllStar. Unfortuantely, they were back ordered. After waiting 5 weeks, I said screw it, traded my broken AllStar in and upgraded to a Lamiglas as I'm very happy with my other Lamiglas rods.

Hopefully, AllStar has improved their quality control. I'm just glad it didn't happen in the middle of winter steelhead season.

Allstar - Great feel, nice looking, very fragile, good warranty if the place you bought it still carries that model. (1143c, 1141s)

Lamiglas Certified Pro - Great feel, nice looking, tough as nails so far (5 years) haven't used warranty. (XM95CT)

Like the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for." I've bought plenty of the 90-100$ rods and now i've sold off them all on ebay and saved money for Lamiglas esprit and Loomis. How many guides use Loomis, or Lamiglas??? Yes they do fish alot more then the normal angler, but why own a rod for 3 years when you can own it for 6??

I have a 8.6 lamiglas ,10.6 shimano,and have used a GL2 and also allstar rods . I give the lami , great rod .The shimano also a great rod .GL2 not that impressed seems fragile .Then allstar rods, worked fine last 3 weekends might have to bye 1 to test.

Had the same harsh results with the Allstar. Two casts into an afternoon on the Puyallup, I got a little over anxious and landed in a tree.
Outdoor Imporium was more than fair about the exchange, but if it happens again it's gonna be time to build my own.

I would look at a Rainshadow or a Rogue, we can build both, I think you get muc more rod for your money with these two.. over an All-Star

All star are very unrelyable. As a former dealer I had seen too many come back broken to be acceptable. Lammiglass Cert. Pro. is my favorite series of rods. Loomis still makes a great rod but like thier owner Shimano they have become too big for thier britches. Lammiglass is still very locally oriented and wants to focus on the salmon and steelhead fisherman. It boils down to one thing Good quallity equipment = good luck.


Any one seen that darn road runner?

Has anybody tried the Berkely IM7? I think these are Buzz Ramsey? I was curious about these. I haven't seen these in a while. I know the IM6 and IM7s are supposed to be good. A am not sure what these numbers mean, or are these rods not comparable? I have quite a few Lamiglases. I mostly fish saltwater and am going to start fishing rivers more and have to buy some new rods for open faced reels. I just bought a Shimano Stradic 4000 and a Penn open faced. Sounds like the All Stars might not be the way to go. I am going to be using these for Olympic Peninsula fishing as well as local here in Monroe. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the advice and input on Allstar. You'll be hearing from me sometime in December or January TH...... It sounds like I need a rainshadow....

Go with the TH rainshadow. I promise you will not be dissapointed. It will be your favorite rod and you will get the rainshadow bug like me.

fishin nut, i fish a berkley air im7, its one tough rod, i use it for both out in the salt on a downrigger, and soon to be on the columbia , ive never had a problem with it, except for the guides replaced, it takes tons of abuse, had it since 96' good rod for 80$$, but its not as sensitive as i would like, has a slow action to it.. but will whoop a kings ass anytime..very durable rod.. also got another one for steelies, (8-12#) but soon im gonna get a 1143 for steelies, longer and more sensitve rod.

Cabela's fish eagle rods are made by Lammiglas. I've been in the factory and seen the fish eagle rods being assembled. Berkly IM 7 are also another problem. They went to the cheap all metal guides instead of ceramic guides and they have a high falure rate. Buzz Ramsey should be embarassed to have his name on these rods. I built a rainshadow 1143 and have been absolutly delighted with it. If you really want to see the ultimate steelhead rod, get yourself a Sage G3 962 blank. This is the most advanced Graphite rod on the market, HANDS DOWN!!! Not for the penny pincher. The blank runs $289.00.

I used to fish the berkely IM7, it seemed fine at the time, other then the guides, but I didn't realize what I was missing until I felt the imx 1084. that is the cadilac of salmon/steelhead rods.
