Scouted some spots on the Green yesterday and came across a strange site. One that i had never seen before. There was a small tributary with barely any water trickling down it, dumping into the green. In the rocks i noticed a fresh 12-15lb king still alive stuck in the rocks in this tributary. I guess the water is so low and the fish just couldnt wait to go up and the result was him beaching himself on the rocks as the tide went out. The strange thing though was it is a hatchery fish. And there aint no hatchery there, or associated to this tributary. It almost looks like a drainage creek. Any ideas?

I've seen Chum try to go up trickles of water even though it was not their creek. They might just need some oxygenated or cooler water. Did you save the fish by putting him back in the river?

No, i let nature take it's course. I thought about it though. She wasn't exactally flopping in the rocks.

I saw the same thing except on a river in downtown woodinville. In Woodin Creek which is at the largest about a foot across and 6 inches deep, on the bank i found a dead 8-10 maybe 12 lb hatchery king. Definetly no hatchery on that river. Woodin Creek does empty out into the slough. Are there any hatcherys on rivers that flow into the slough?.... FisherMan8989

It is not all that strange to see any salmon in small streams, good percentages of all salmon wander, not returning to the same place that they hatched at.

And chums prefer to spawn in small tributaries or side channels to the main river.

The wierd thing about your fish is that it tried to get up that revetment for such a small flow. But I have never been one to completely understand fish.
