I know there is a silver run in December and steelhead in March, but is there anything in there now? I'm getting sick of the shoulder to shoulder snag fest on the Nisqually(I live in Lacey) I just don't want to drive 45 minutes to get up there and not have any fish in the river.

nope, nothing in there right now if i remember the runs correctly. and word to the wise, talking about the spookumsuck on the forum will get your lynched by a lot of the people here
the nisqually is just awful this year. not even worth fishing, i went there over 20 times and hooked one, count em, one fish.
ya might want to try capitol lake or the lower deschutes if you want any chance of hooking into a king within 20 miles of olympia, there should be in there now

a few coho show up earlier than dec. on the skook...that's where they raise the squaxin net pen fish until jan. and there've been some 'accidental' releases over the years....they're skykomish stock so they come back a little earlier than the bingham/chehalis stuff they release into the river...and it is a snag fest in the pool across the hatchery for 'em ...river doesn't open to for fishin' 'em until oct. 16 though...

Thanks for the info, I was wondering if the hatchery had a king run or if they still release cuttthroats in October still(they did a few years ago) I spoke with the hatchery guy last year during the silver run and asked why all the fish were wild(no fin clipped) and he said they are all hatchery and that they release them in the river but dont mark them. You said lynched? During March it looks like blue creek up there so it not even close to being a zipper! The capital lake idea sounds good, I may take the ole kayac and paddle up to under I-5 and catch a dark king for my racoon friends outside(yes, I feed the damn racoons, for some stupid reason I think they are cool)

i used to see some nice bright fish in capitol lake, probably dark by now though
i just remember past years on this forum when people used to start huge flame wars about the skookumchuck steelhead fishery, about how it's a zipperlip and all. i plan on doing some more fishing it this year, i can always find some nice solitude as long as i don't fish the hatchery hole

Hearing all this talk about the Spook I think I will give it a try... :p It is amazing how writing about a river on the internet makes everybody want to try it out. Don't worry... Where to has something to do with it, but if you don't no how to... ![banana banana](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/banana.gif)

![eek eek](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/eek.gif) the Skook opened on the 16th of Oct i have been there every other day . i have landed adult kings, silvers and just thismorning my first chum of the year . try fishing the river just below the resivior dam . use an assortment of corkies and yarn . i have found that flo- green & pink works best . fish on!
