Gotta' pal with a 50hrs Merc with a jet that needs some work. Took it to one guy who took the lower off and put a breaker bar on the shaft and it wouldn't budge. He gave it back saying it was seized and not worth the trouble. We went out yesterday turned the key and it clicked twice and then it turned over so obviously not seized.

So, who is the best Mercury mechanic around the sound?

Was he using the breaker bar to turn the engine over or to seperate the cases. The shafts like to "sieze" up where it mates with the power head.Had one like that and it was a lost cause.Might be a misunderstanding????

No Cleo, the breaker bar was on the shaft to try to turn the crank manually. It seemed locked up when we tried the key, but then after a few tries whatever was hanging it up let go and it turned over. Haven't put gas to it yet, but it was running, but poorly, when he took it in.

Wanted to add for the guys out north,
"Sky Valley Marine" in Monroe is the best going out here for Merc's, Dave is the owner and very honest! and flat out knows Mercs and there tricks! plus his shop rates are lower than most, saved me many times over the years.

Bud.
