Went there the other day and had alot of fun. Late season coho, supplied by the Indians, was the quarry. The fishery reminded me very much of the Wind River spring chinook thing, ie, pull wiggle-warts in 20 feet of water along a 30 yard by 150 yard slot. When done, pull up and circle back around to get in line for the next pass. I saw lots of fish caught. We caught two and lost two. To anyone familar with the Wind River fishery, it is identical except the slot is only 1/4 as long.

Rob Allen get a life.
I hope it kills you that thanks to the Yakama Nation we can look forward to tons of fine coho finning the Klickitat for years to come.

coho in the klickitat is a bad thing and will mean the loss of the ONLY good wild summer steelhead fishery in the entire Columbia basin.. I think it sucks , is stupid and morally wrong.. I think the only reason to support such actions is that you do not care about the river or it's fish all that type of person cares about is a freezer full of fish. I am sorry if that offends you but thats the truth. I am sick and tired of playing these games with people who think like you. All you care about is filling as many punchcards as you can. That is the ONLY reason to be infavor of increasing any hatchery runs anywhere. I think that is foolish and will cause only destruction of what we have that is already great..

Grandpa i never claimed to be smarter i just think destroying the one of the two good wild run of summer steelhead in the columbia river system is a foolish thing to do.. there are plenty of other locations these coho could be planted to proveide for tribal harvest.. After all that is what these fish are there for.. They are not there for sporties or for commercials..
For instance planting them in Drano lake makes all the sence in the world.. There is a hatchery right there and plenty of good coho rearing habitat.. with excellent opportunities for the tribe to harvest them..
It just angers me that people think it's cool that we are destroying the best washington has so they can have more fish in the freezer.
That is the same attitude that got us where we are today.. There are all ready excessive opportunities for sports fishers to harvest as many fish as they could possibly want no one needs or should even desire more opportunity we have tons already!!!

What I liked about this fishery is that the fish aggressively hit the plug, just like they do in the ocean. I am sure thay can go lockjaw, just like other river fish do, but when they do you are blissfully unaware of it 'cause you can't see them.

Ok Rob Allen. You say hatchery coho spell the end to the wild steelhead on the Klickitat ... I guess everyones entitled to their own beliefs.

It must cause you great anguish when you think about the thriving fall chinook and summer steelhead hatchery programs on this river.

what causes me grief is when anglers don't care at all about wild runs and all that they do care about is seeing how many punchcards they can fill.. especially on a river that could be so much better if just left alone..
