We fished up near Kanaskat, for Steelhead. We saw a few Salmon (not open for Salmon).

Saw a few Steelies that were not intrested and C&N a few 10 "- 12 " Rainbows.

Stopped on the way back at the Soos Creek Hatchery and saw the usual suspects harassing the kings.

A lot of people under the hwy 18 bridge fishing , we only saw a few dark Cohos and a lot of Dust Bunny covered Pinks.

Here are some pics from the hatchery.

ya, i was jus up at soos creek hatchery the other day and made a comment on this board about letting all those fish go to waste, they should net some to give the surplus away..they get way more that enough eggs to spawn..they could even take em upstream like kanasket and let them swim up there to die, so as to replenish the rivers with there carcasses...or maybe do they let people do that? go pick up the carcasses and distribute them? i will have to check up on that..

i havent seen too many snaggers out on the green this season.

does anyone know why the coho on the green are so small compared with snohomish system coho which seem to be about twice as big on average. does the green run stay in the sound? most coho being caught on the green are about 2-4 lbs

They don't seem to bite when they are in the river and must be just as finicky when they are in the ocean. I watched about 50 guys from the railroad trestle this weekend for about 10 minutes, I did not see one fish caught (or snagged) but I did see tons swimming around.

ya lupo, i'll tell ya why they are so much smaller than the snohomish..tribal gill netting, they retain the bigger of the fish, letting the smaller pass thru..

The nets are set to capture the bigger fish letting the little ones pass.

i didnt even think of that... damn nets!!

so if only the small fish return to spawn, will the run get smaller over time from taking the genetics of the bigger fish out of the gene pool?

I have to believe that there is more than mesh size involved. 1. When the nets were out on weekends, I didn't see many large fish in the Duwamish. 2. The smallest silvers on the coast are much bigger than what I've seen on the Green. I don't think the tribes over there have come up with a way or a desire to target the smallest fish.
