Hey all- picked up a Curado today to replace my old Baitcaster, and cant figure out how the Variable Brake System works? Six little brakes that slide on and off...what is the best way to set this up ? the manual is a bit vague.

I found that if you have all in but two on opposite sides poking out it works well. I don't know how else to explain it. Hope this helps. Remember to set the spool tension also, so your weight falls slowly when you free spool.

if the brakes are pulled out they are engaged. the more engaged the less distance you get with less weight but less chance of a backlash. I find that 2 engaged is pretty good overall control if your a seasoned veteran you can use 1 and get more distance and if really good go with none. I use 1 engaged and only get small backlashes every once in awhile if I try to whip out there and not get a smooth casting motion. I hope this helped

I think the easy access to the VBS is the best part of the Curado. Like those above said, one or two "brakes" on is great for drift fishing. But when you come to a stretch that just screams float and jig, you can easily open up the side and slide out another brake or two to help in casting that wind resistant float.

Great little reels for the money.

Sky-Guy, I also fish with 1 or 2 of the brakes engaged. In my opinion you just picked up the best baitcaster money can buy. I own a Calais but, always seem to reach for the Curado when accuracy is critical.
